many more eye witness (friends & co-workers)
7 WWD Crashes in last 10 years
3 Fatalities
2 were from a “U” turn on mainline
1 was coded as “unknown”

Project Goals Determine where WWDs are occurring
Determine what the driver was doing before the
incorrect movement was made
Did they self correct quickly?
After a pattern is determined, treat specific
area with enhanced signing, painting, and
lighting. (Low-Medium Cost)
If problem continues, use ITS (Medium cost)
May need to consider geometric changes
(High Cost)

After system was turned on, Nov 13 it
detected 2 WWD within a few weeks.
One 100% positive, one 98% positive
Waiting for 3rd…. But that took 7 more
months. 3rd one

10 second video clips are too short
Combination of entry points and mid
interchange are a good idea.
Test daily (8am, reverse flow detection)
