Research and Testing Services Schedule
Research and Development Laboratory The NCMA Research and Development Laboratory is an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited testing laboratory dedicated to the scientific testing and research of manufactured concrete products and systems. Accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS), the Laboratory is equipped to perform nearly any physical testing of masonry and hardscape units, assemblies, and related materials. The lab is staffed by engineers and technicians with over 50 years of experience in the masonry industry, and are available for consultation on developing a research program to demonstrate the performance characteristics of a specific material, product, or masonry system. The Laboratory also has a state-of-the-art Unit Production Facility available for concrete masonry production research.

Unit Production Research The Research and Development Laboratory has a state-of-the-art unit manufacturing line capable of producing concrete masonry units and related units. Opportunities for research include:
Trial Mix Designs
New Admixture, Cement, or Aggregate Influences
Evaluation of Curing Influences
Prototype Unit Production
Recycled Materials Evaluation
Production Technology Training
Testing of new materials or production methods never go as planned. Issues with equipment, personnel, and the loss of production time are problems with developing new products or evaluating new materials. The Unit Production Facility has the ability to simulate several different batching, manufacturing, and curing methodologies in use at modern production facilities. Lab staff will take the time to record, document, and correlate production information to resulting unit properties. Best of all, the physical testing of produced units can be accomplished at the same facility, so there is no need for additional shipping costs to a testing laboratory.
Product and System Research Products that do not conform to the general assumptions of building codes are typically evaluated by an independent agency for use under the alternative materials and systems section of the building code. The NCMA Laboratory has considerable experience in working with the evaluation services provided by these independent agencies. The Laboratory can assist in defining and performing the testing and research that may be necessary to demonstrate the performance properties of the evaluated product or system to the evaluation service.
