Do You Meet The Requirements To Join The Army?

• Joining the Army isn’t a decision that can be made on the spur of the moment.

• Potential soldiers do need to make sure that they meet specific requirements before they try to join.

• Knowing what these requirements are before you meet with a recruiter can make the process a smooth one.

General Requirements To

Join The Army• Potential enlistees need to have a high school

diploma.

• It’s possible to enlist with a GED, however promotion opportunities will be severely limited.

• Soldiers who enlisted with a GED can improve their advancement opportunities by completing at least 15 hours of college credit.

be in good physical condition.

• They’ll need to pass a standard physical, be in good health and have good physical conditioning.

• Perfect eyesight is not a requirement, even for soldiers who want to go into aviation.

General Requirements To

Join The Army• Lastly, there are age requirements to join the Army.

• Soldiers need to be at least 18, though it’s possible to join at 17 with parent permission.

• Active Duty soldiers need to be between 17 and 42.

• Reserve soldiers need to be between 17 and 40.

• Guard soldiers need to be between 17 and 35.

What’s Not REquired?

• Contrary to popular belief, it’s not necessary to be a citizen to enlist in the U.S. Army.

• Potential soldiers do need to be a permanent legal resident alien and hold a green card.

• Legal resident aliens may be restricted from performing some types of Army jobs that require a top secret clearance.

• Non-citizen U.S. nationals are treated the same as citizens for enlistment purposes.

enlist, they need to take the ASVAB.

• The ASVAB is a standardized test that all potential military servicemembers must take.
