A govern­ment is only as strong as its citizenry, and public high school education in the United States makes democracy p o s s i b l e through enlightened citizens.

Finally, Dr. Johnson urged the graduates to sharpen their powers of appreciation for na­ture and man. He told them not to forget the beauty of nature and the legacy of man. which includes material things and knowledge as well as direct help from contemporaries.
