ABSTRACT
In 1990 the Arkansas State Board of Higher Education adoptedguidelines for the development of state minimum core curriculum response to statelegislation. This legislation provides that courses within the core shall apply to thegeneral education core curriculum requirements for baccalaureate degrees at state-supported institutions and shall be fully transferable between state institutions. TheBoard has approved state minimum core curricula for 2- and 4-year colleges anduniversities. This document provides the minimum core curricula, with approvedrevisions, for Arkansas public institutions of higher education. (SLD)

APPROVAL OF REVISIONS TO THE STATE MINIMUM CORE CURRICULA
In April 1990, the State Board of Higher Education adopted guidelines for thedevelopment of state minimum core curricula in response to A.C.A. §6-61-218. Thislegislation provides that courses within the core shall apply toward the generaleducation core curriculum requirements for baccalaureate degrees at state-supportedinstitutions and shall be fully transferable between state institutions.
The Board has approved state minimum core curricula for two- and four-year collegesand universities. Proposed curricula revisions must be submitted for CoordinatingBoard approval. Copies of revised curricula appear on the following pages. (Revisionsare indicated in bold and italics.)
The following resolution is presented for Board consideration.
RESOLVED, That the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Boardapproves the revised curricula for Arkansas State University, ArkansasTech University, Henderson State University, University of Arkansas atLittle Rock, University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Arkansas atPine Bluff, Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas,Mississippi County Community College, North Arkansas College, RichMountain Community College, University of Arkansas Community Collegeat Hope, University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Coordinating Board instructs theDirector of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education to distribute thestate minimum core curricula to all state colleges and universities.

State Minimum Core Required for Baccalaureate DegreesGeneral Provisions
1. Within the framework of the State Minimum Core specified on the previouspage, each state institution shall propose 35 semester --credit hours from itsinstitutional general education core to be recognized for purposes of this legislation.The total general education degree requirements at each institution may exceed theState Minimum Core requirements.
2. Each state institution shall present its proposed State Minimum Core forconsideration by the State Board of Higher Education for recognition under thislegislation. Institutions may present proposed changes in their State Minimum Coreto the State Board as necessary.
3. Each state institution shall accept for transfer and apply toward requirementsfor any baccalaureate degree such parts of any other state institution's StateMinimum Core as shall be presented by transfer students. If a student transfers toan institution which has total general education degree requirements that exceedthe State Minimum Core, after recognizing all courses presented from the sendinginstitution's State Minimum Core, the receiving institution may determine whichadditional general education courses are required to make up the differencebetween the State Minimum core courses presented and the institution's totalgeneral education degree requirements.
4. Students should be aware that score requirements for credit by examinationon such tests as CLEP or Advanced Placement vary among institutions andthat institutions to which they transfer may have different requirements thanthe requirements of the institution previously attended. Institutions are requestedto show on their transcripts the test scores utilized for awarding credit byexamination.
5. Frequently, courses with a grade of D do not transfer, and students should beaware that institutional policies regarding the transfer of courses within D gradesmay vary.
6. In math and science, higher courses than those required will be accepted for thepurposes of the State Minimum Core.
7. A receiving institution may be more lenient in accepting credit at its own election;however, the policies regarding the State Minimum Core do not obligate thereceiving institution beyond the stated courses and provisions.
8. A student who has enrolled under more than one State Minimum Core may selectthat core which is to be transferred to the receiving institution.

Other Transfer Agreements
Students should be aware that there are other transfer agreements which involvespecific institutions and groups of institutions and which provide for transfer of greaternumbers of semester credit hours that are included in the State Minimum Core. Thereare voluntary core curriculum transfer agreements which include several institutions ofhigher education in instances such as baccalaureate liberal arts and elementaryeducation degrees. There are also a number of transfer agreements between twoinstitutions in specific fields such as engineering or agriculture.

State Minimum Core Required for Baccalaureate Degrees
Act 98 of 1989 (Arkansas Code 6-61-218) provides that the State Board of Higher Education "shallestablish in consultation with the colleges and universities a minimum core of courses which shallapply toward the general education core curriculum requirements for baccalaureate degrees at statesupported institutions of higher education and which shall be fully transferable between stateinstitutions." The term "State Minimum Core" will be used to describe the core identified for purposesof this legislation.
