ABSTRACTThis lesson plan can be used in social studies, language
arts, or library research. The instructional objective is for students toselect a topic of study relating to Africa, write a thesis statement, collectinformation from media sources, and develop a conclusion. The teacher mayassign the lesson for written or oral evaluation. The teacher prepares atopic list to guide students to the preferred area of study and research. Thelesson plan requires the student to use libraries and to: (1) use studyskills to complete tasks, monitor success, and record and restructureinformation; (2) use research skills to evaluate, select, record, andreorganize information; (3) use reference skills to locate information from avariety of sources; and (4) use critical thinking skills to solve researchproblems.
