Representation of Young People All of my images comprise of young people. Now Soul music is usually associated with the mature age range so I’m sort of subverting the stereotype. However you could argue that soul music is opening up to a much more young audience with artists like Corinne Bailey Rae or Jason Mraz opening up new styles of music. My younger audience can relate to my artists because they are young like them and the clothes they are wearing are fairly casual which my younger audience can also relate to. Some of the pictures were taken in a park, a conventional place for young people to hang out. Young person on JazzTimes

Representation of Musicians The inclusion of instruments is

representation stereotypical of musicians. I wanted my artists to look like they were fully passionate about their music by not looking at the camera and being fully immersed with their music playing. I wanted musicians passing by to notice that and relate to them, maybe they play the same instrument as the artist and would want to read more about them and would buy my magazine for that purpose. I try not represent celebs per say because I want a wide audience to relate to my artists and most of the audience can’t relate to celebs.

Representation of a Mature Audience

As I hadn’t used any adults as my artists I was finding it hard to target and represent my older audience. In my main article I believe I’ve done this by using Standard English and not colloquialisms like slang because my mature audiences do not identify with slang terms and may turn them away. I think keeping the whole page fairly simple was also key to representing older audiences. Older audiences don’t care much for loads of pictures they want to get straight to the information. I also had to make the page eye-catching for other audiences as well so I’m not only trying to address older audiences but younger audiences. With one picture and a chuck of text I believe it’s representing a wider audience.
