Abstract

Our client, one of the largest CPG manufacturers in the world and

spread across multiple locations, was facing challenges in managing

Point of Sales (POS) data reporting and business intelligence reports

of their retail customers.

The existing BO platform of the client hosted a multitude of data from

various customers and this data was not available at a granular level,

so a layer of Advanced Analytics solution was required on the client’s

big data platform to obtain more granular details.

Our client being one of the largest CPG manu-

facturers in the world had multiple retail clients

and the data relating to these clients - point of

sales reports and business intelligence reports

are to hosted, reported and analyzed to

increase the efficiency of the production and to

attain better visibility on the products which

were being sold at the retail level.

These reports were earlier processed through

multiple templates and the users of these

reports had to resort to manual methods to

access the desired granularity level in the

reports generated. Our client wanted to make

enhancements in their existing system by creat-

ing a new solution on their big data platform.

Vertex conducted a detailed technical assess-

ment of the client’s Big Data platform for

OBIEE’s dashboards and analysis capabilities.

We analyzed the customer’s existing BO reports

and also the specific needs of customer to

understand the complexity and built scalable

reporting solution which met all the require-

ments. The static reports in the existing BO

were dynamically created into a single template

on the OBIEE platform by combining similar

reports in BO and by adjusting the business

needs of all customers.

Interactive dashboards - OBIEE 11g Interac-

tive Dashboards solution provided a fully

interactive collection of dashboards and

reports with a rich variety of visualizations.

The Users can drill, pivot, and filter their data

directly on the dashboard, while a rich set of

prompts and powerful right-click interactions

open up even more advanced analysis capa-

bilities. The Users based on predefined secu-

rity rules can access information which is

filtered and personalized based on their iden-

tity, function, or role. Also alerts, guided navi-

gation links, and actions accelerate

exception-based discovery of insight.

Ad-hoc Analysis and Interactive Reporting

This provided the business users with full ad

hoc query and analysis capability, users of

Oracle Business Intelligence can create new

analyses from scratch or modify existing

analyses in dashboard pages. To free the

business users from data structure complex-

ity, the metadata layer of Oracle Business

Intelligence offers a logical view of metrics,

hierarchies, and calculations which are

expressed in understandable concepts. The

Business users do not need to understand

physical data storage to combine data from

multiple enterprise information sources.
