Drought results May Just Now Be surfaciNgThough mild Texas weather usually leaves residents with few complaints, the past few months have changed this. Even though the Texas drought of 2011 seems to be a thing of the past the damage to your homes foundation may just be beginning. The severe lack of rain the past year caused a number of problems from dying plants to damage to homes, buildings and infrastructures. This damage might not be noticed right away. You may begin to see signs of developing foundation problems which include cracks throughout your foundation, in your walls inside your home, damaged pipes, cracks in the sidewalk and misaligned doors and window frames. Generally complaints are made to the builder blaming it on their quality of work rather than on the uncontrollable circumstance that create issues. This year the Better

Business Bureau offices around the state of Texas have reported a 75% increase in requests for information on foundation repairs and who to call. For general maintenance concerning your homes healthy foundation soaker hoses are great ideas to help keep the soil

moist surrounding your home and buildings. If you do not take proper action to insure a healthy foundation your only option may be to call a reliable foundation specialist with direction from your builder.

North texas home Builders association host christmas Party at Backdoor theatreBy lee grace, Classified Writer

Approximately 76 people attended the North Texas Home Builders Association Christmas Party held Thursday, Dec. 15 at Backdoor Theater. Participants enjoyed a delicious dinner and a play, The Winter Wonderettes, by the Backdoor Players that included audience participation. Those pulled on stage to participate included John Ahearn, Cassie Ahearn and Reynaldo Loera with Overhead Doors of Wichita Falls. Each tier of guest was asked to participate as a group and help one of the members on stage by making specific sounds. Chuck Vergauwen with Woodco Building Products was also pulled on stage to fill in for the missing Santa Clause. He was known by the audience as “Santa Baby” as the Wonderettes sang to him. Along with the play, Chairman of the Membership, Meetings & Education Committee conducted a contest for the best dressed couple. The winners were Charles and Shirley Barr with Charles Barr Homes. They won a gift basket made by Shelia Hammonds with wine, wine glasses, cheese, crackers and sausage. The winner of the best dressed woman contest was Griselda Anzaldua with Ferguson Enterprises. She won a $25 gift certificate to Red Nails. The best dressed man contest winner was Steven Hinson with Dennis Company. He won a $25 gift certificate for a MVP Haircut, head and face message and shampoo from Sports Clips. President of the association Stan Mountain drew random ticket winners and 11 door prizes were given away. Everyone agreed the evening, full of laughter and fellowship, was a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

Notable thiNgs for 2012• The Parade of Homes has been scheduled to begin June 2 – June 10, 2012. A deposit of $500.00 for a parade home entry is due by February 1, 2012 with the balance and a copy of the blueprint of your parade home being due by March 1, 2012. Note: Home and blueprint changes can be made after deadline but payment must be in.

• Housing Guide ad sales will begin January 3, 2012 and run through April 27, 2012. Parade of Homes committee members will be soliciting you to purchase an ad. There will be a limited number of colored ads depending on the number of home entries so make sure to purchase early. Ad prices are as follows: • Full Page Color $2345.00 • Half Page color$1660.00 • Full Page Black & White $1340.00 • Half page Black & White $770.00, • Quarter page Black & White $550.00 • Eighth page Black & White $325.00

• 3’x6’ Banners are available for $100.00 each. These banners will be displayed at your place of business approximately 2 weeks prior to the Parade and will be taken down the week following the Parade. The banner will promote the Parade of Homes dates and will say sponsored by (your place of business). Dates will be removable and the banner can be used for years to come. Only purchase thereafter will be to change dates. If you are interested in purchasing an ad or banner or have any questions please contact teri at the NTHBA office 692-2211.

• Housing Hall of Honor applications will be accepted throughout the year to give everyone an opportunity to nominate a person who they think has made an impact on the housing industry. Nominees do not have to be a member of the NTHBA and there are a wide variety of categories they can be chosen from. Deadline for nominations will be July 30, 2012 at 5PM. You can download an application and guidelines from the web site, www.nthba.com or call the NTHBA office for alternate ways to receive one.

CondolenCesCindy Whittaker passed away December 19th, following a battle with cancer. She had been the graphic designer for the NTHBA newsletter for the past four years. Cindy was a very creative person with a wonderful imagination and an eye for detail. She continued to work for others and

us until just weeks before her death. We extend our condolences to the Whittaker family on their loss.

We would also like to express our sincere sympathy to Bill & Mary Lou Rowland of the passing of Mary Lou’s daughter Virginia Sue Shipman on December 10, 2011.
