Thanksgiving Dinner November 22 - 5:00 pm

Your Sunday School class will be notified
which items to bring for the meal.
In just a couple of weeks, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. However, it may not be all that noticeable
around town. The merchandise and decorations in the stores seems to go from Halloween to
Christmas with little hint of Thanksgiving. No doubt the reason behind overlooking Thanksgiving is that
the holidays surrounding it have much greater commercial appeal, which translates into financial gain.
But, as God’s children, it is appropriate that we focus our thoughts on the goodness of God and offer
our gratitude to HIM for who HE is and for all HE has done for us.
Take time to read Psalm 103. Someone has called this David’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” Notice that David
reminds himself, as he praises God, of all that the Lord has done. David praised the Lord with his song.
He words were not trite, dry, or stale. His words were full of life and energy. His words reflect his
attitude of thanksgiving and worship.
In this Thanksgiving season, consider these six practical suggestions as you give thanks and praise to
the Lord.
1. Be aware - Forget not His benefits.
2. Be honest - Don't be a phony. Don't put on an act. Phony Christians turn people off.
3. Be grateful - There is nothing that encourages praise like gratitude. Have a thankful heart.
4. Be vocal - Tell someone. Sing His praises. Bless someone with a testimony.
5. Be natural - Praise God in a way that is natural for you.
6. Be consistent - Make it part of your everyday experience.
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Welcome to November! Yes, it is hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us. In I Thessalonians 5:16, the Bible commands us to “give thanks.” In fact, that verse goes on to say that “this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Have you started your thanksgiving list yet? If not, get started today. And keep that list going all year long!
As you will see in this edition of the Reporter, our fourth annual “One Ton in One Hour” food drive will take place on Sunday, November 22. This year, it will be competitive. It will be the guys against the gals. On average, we have brought in two or three tons of food each year. This is a real blessing to our local food bank. I believe with this “guys vs. gals” competition, we can tip the scales at five tons of food this year! So, get ready, and let’s make this year’s food drive our best food drive in the history of First Baptist Church.
I have just finished a series of sermons on four key components of our vision here at First Baptist Church. These four components are: membership, discipleship, stewardship, and leadership. We all know how important these areas are to the future of this church. Please continue to pray with me that First Baptist Church might grow in all four of these areas.
I love each one of you, and I can hardly wait to see you this coming Lord’s Day!

Thanks for your prayers and the many ways you have shown your love during these tough times since God called my best friend, Bill, home. You are very special! Love in Christ,
Ruth Cobb
To my wonderful church family, Thank you so much for all the kindness you expressed to me during my recent illness. I so appreciate all the food, cards, visits and most of all your prayers. I cannot imaging how one can cope without a church family.
Sue Goodson
Pastor Dr. David Higgs & FBC Members, Thank you for your gracious hospitality this past Sunday. The Gideons appreciate your efforts in supporting our program. Also, congratulations on the church’s vision to construct a new children’s area. May God bless you and your congregation as you continue His work. Sincerely yours,
Jerry T. Hanszen
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.” 1John 4:7 You, my church family, have been acting out this love toward me for the past 11 months. Through hospitalizations, ongong serious health issues and tornado destruction of my home, you continue to uphold my spirits. God has used your abilities, resources and sensitivity to meet my needs in so many different ways. Whether through cards, meals, flowers, visits, gifts, transportation, financial help, cleaning, moving furniture, pet care, or temporary living accommodations, you have been there. Most importantly YOU PRAYED, and GOD honored your prayers. How AWESOME is He? Thank you for being open to His promptings. God is repeatedly teaching me through these events that HE is the one in control, not me. My love to you all, through our Father,
Cathy Waggoner
Church Family, “Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.” We so dearly thank you for your prayers, flowers, food, and memorials.
The Family of George Bristow
I would like to personally thank you for selecting me for the McCarter Scholarship. Your generosity has allowed me to enter into the final semester of my education here at Southern Seminary, which will bring about the completion of my Masters of Divinity degree. I am thankful for your support/ and I rejoice in your recent milestone of celebrating 165 years of gospel ministry. Few churches know this joy, and I pray God continues to illuminate the hearts in your congregation. Grace & Peace,
Blair Holland
