A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

page 1

Since 1995, the HEB ISD Education Foundation has raised and awarded private funds and community resources to support the HEB ISD’s commitment to excellence in education.

I want to thank our volunteer Board of Directors who have worked tirelessly to advance our mission and raise awareness of the great work of our district. In the past year, we have extended the support of our corporate community through our new partnership with NTE Mobility Partners with financial support of the Elementary STEM program. Our long-time partner and donor Bell Helicopter increased their level of commitment with the addition of a drone competition at the Buinger CTE Academy. A special gift was made to theEducation Foundation from Texas Health Resources Methodist Hospital HEB for a new electronic scoreboard at Pennington Field. And Tarrant Acquisitions made a direct donation to theEducation Foundation’s Endowment Fund. From the Endowment Fund the Education Foundation invests in our HEB ISD classrooms and campuses through the educator grant program. Since its inception 450 grants have been awarded totaling over $770,000 directly impacting students, educators, families and the community. This year wereached a new high-level mark awarding $60,000 in 33 grants for the 2017-2018 school year. Once again, the Education Foundation hosted our annual Awards of Excellence program recognizing 33 students and their teacher mentors in 14 fields of study. We were pleased to welcome new HEB ISD staff members by producing and hosting the annual New Professionals Luncheon. We continue to enhance the investment options for our community through the development of the new Planned Giving program. This is just a glimpse into our story. The real impact of our work and your support is seen in the classroom and on the faces of students and educators throughout the district. We can’t do the work without you. Together, we make a difference in the lives of our teachers and students.

Warmest Regards,

Jim Griffin, Mayor of BedfordChairman, Board of Directors

AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE

page 4

March 23, 2017 was a night of celebration at the annual HEB ISD Education Foundation’s Awards of Excellence

dinner. The Foundation recognized 33 outstanding high school seniors and their teacher mentors in 14 fields of

study from LD Bell, Trinity, KEYS, and BUINGER CTE Academy.

More than 250 awardees, family members, Education Foundation supporters, elected officials, community leaders,

and school district officials attended the event and enjoyed a dinner catered by the HEB ISD Culinary Arts students

from the Buinger CTE Academy.

Foundation Chairman Jim Griffin, Mayor of Bedford,

Foundation Board Chair-elect, Debbie Paganelli, and

Superintendent Steve Chapman greeted the students

and teacher mentors on stage. Each of the awardees

was given a medal, photo plaque and certificates from

State Representative Jonathan Stickland, State Senator

Kelly Hancock and State Senator Konni Burton.

Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes provided each

recipient with a certificate of recognition.

The honorees were selected by their campus lead teachers in each area of study including, art band, choir, communications, English, math, PE/Athletics, science, social studies, theater arts, and world languages. Career and technology education fields included business and industry, public service, and STEM.

The event concluded with an inspirational monologue by Jeff Burnett, senior pastor at First Baptist Hurst, and the Master of Ceremonies of the evening. In his final statement, Dr. Burnett spoke directly to the honorees,

“May there be many other high-water marks, such as tonight,

in your future. And from this day forward, as you go forth to

change our nation and the world, may your destiny be

continually defined by – excellence!”

“Working together, Texas Health HEB and the

HEB ISD Education Foundation are supporting the growing minds

of our student community. We applaud their hard work and commitment

to their goals, and remain encouraged by their certain bright futures.”

Deborah A. Paganelli, FACHE I President

Texas Health HEB

The HEB ISD Education Foundation awarded $50,004.56, funding 20 grants for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Since its inception and through the 2016-2017 school year, the Education Foundation has raised and awarded

more than $700,000 to our deserving HEB ISD classrooms and campuses. The grant awards have included innovative

initiatives like a hands-on learning weather station reporting the weather to news outlets across the country, leadership

development in the IB Diploma program, and listening equipment for world languages.

EMPOWERED TO EXCELINNOVATIVE GRANT PROGRAM

After review by the district’s cabinet, our volunteer committee conducts a blind review of the grant applications and selects

the best grants based on a published rubric. Grant requests up to $1,000 are awarded to individual teachers. Grant requests
