Page 9: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

The Role of the Labour Movement While labour movement has a very high profile, if one goes down

to the work place it’s very weak (especially with regard to discrimination issues)

Regulated FlexibilityThe impact of regulated settlements, we should retrace our steps

and rebuild the basicsand rebuild the basics

Needing SynergyA comprehensive approach to policy is required, failing this the

labour market will fall into an even deeper crisis

Labour Market Commission ReportView expressed was that we shouldn’t assume that this policy is

the basis to build on, perception that it’s based on flawed assumptions

Page 10: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

Page 11: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

Page 12: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

Page 14: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

Key themes emerging (continued)

Do we need legislative reforms with regard to

the challenges facing us?

The role of the CCMAThe role of the CCMA Is the CCMA a victim of its own success, (its high case

load), is this access to justice or is this ‘top up’ employment

benefits?

Is the CCMA encouraging ‘rent seeking’ behaviour, come

and get a months salary even if you have had your ‘hands in

the till’, is this social justice?

Page 15: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank

Key themes emerging (continued)

There’s a lack of trust between the parties, the

parties are trying to protect their turf

There is a need for a comprehensive approach

that connects the issues, failing which the that connects the issues, failing which the

labour market will sink into an even deeper

state of chaos

The international/global crisis will/can force us

to come up with a new paradym

Page 16: Report on the CCMA facilitated Think Tank
