Report on Flood Situation & Flood Relief Feeding Programme CASA, Bhopal Bhopal Flood Situation Bhopal received an unprecedented 24 cm rainfall on the night of 9 th July 2016 which broke the record of 46 years in the city. The whole city was inundated with the rain water with leaving no area unaffected. The sudden downpour flooded the low lying areas and severely affected the slum dwellers who reside in these areas. The affected people have lost their shelter, property and their normal life being disrupted. Impact of Flood Due to heavy downpour, twenty two people died and nine people are missing, report from Chief Minister Press Cell. 15,819 people ravaged by flood. 2,630 houses were completely damaged due to flood and 17,236 houses were partially damaged.     Bhopal received an unprecedented 24 cm rainfall on the night of 9th July 2016 which broke the record of 46 years in the city. The whole city was inundated with the rain water with leaving no area unaffected. The sudden downpour flooded the low lying areas and severely affected the slum dwellers who reside in these areas. The affected people have lost their shelter, property and their normal life being disrupted.

    Impact of Flood

    Due to heavy downpour, twenty two people died and nine people are missing, report from Chief Minister Press Cell. 15,819 people ravaged by flood. 2,630 houses were completely damaged due to flood and 17,236 houses were partially damaged.

    Flood Relief Response by CASA

    In the wake of this unprecedented flood CASA, Bhopal swung in to action by providing immediate Relief response by initiating feeding programme in the affected areas of Bhopal. CASA, Bhopal and collaboration with St. John’s Church (ELC), MP served 6,600 food packets (each containing puri, aloo sabji, pickle and water sachet) for four days from 11-7-2016 to 14-7-2016 to the affected families residing in the slum areas of Vikas nagar ward no. 69, Anna nagar ward no. 57, Bagmugaliya samsanghat ward no. 55, bagmugaliya near bus stand ward no. 55, Banskhedi ward no. 83 and Ganesh nagar, Hoshangabad road.

  • Satna Flood Situation

    Heavy rainfall continued for five dayswhich led to flash floods in several parts of Madhya Pradesh. Satna district has been the worst affected after recording incessant rains of over 492 mm in span of three days. Hundreds of people have been stranded as several villages have been cut off after torrential rains submerged several road and highways. Three villages Sariatola (Sohawal Block, panchayat madhavgad), Chetri (Rampur Baghelan block) and Ghinochi Maroha gram panchayat) were worstly affected. A total of 150 families were severely affected.

    Impact of Flood

    The damage caused due to increase in water level of Tamas River. The gram Saria tola has been the worst affected as it was the resided along the Tamas River. Loss of property included collapsed house and damaged household commodities. Even in the gram Chatri and Ginochi people suffered excessive loss and damage of properties including ration, cereals (wheat). Over 300 families were affected among them over 150 suffered a severe loss.

  • A farmer from Sariatola village, Sohawal block suffered a loss due to flood, damaging the crops and plants.

  • Flood Relief Response by CASA

    CASA and its partner organization Anupama Education Society, Satna provided immediate relief to the affected families residing in these villages. They distributed cooked food and non-food items such as clothes to the severely affected families. A total of 1,500 cooked foods were served for three days.

  • Sagar Flood Situation

    Sagar district situated in the western part of Madhya Pradesh received a heavy rainfall of 651 mm from 1st of July to July 12, 2016 led to rise in the water levels of Sunaar, Rehli Nala, Chaurai Nala, Gateri Nala and thus the houses near the Nalas were submerged in water, destroying all the kaccha houses. Around 123 villages in the Sagar district were affected due to flood and among them 12 villages were severely affected, damaging their houses, wash away their household items and even affected their crops and cattles.

    Even the Rahatgad block of Sagar district received heavy rainfall and destroyed more than 100 kaccha houses. Few were partially damaged and rests were collapsed. Mostly dalit and adivasi families were severely affected who were residing along the basins of Nalas.

  • Impact of Flood

    Incessant rainfall in Sagar district, affected 51 villages in the Godakota Tehsil, 60 villages in the Rehli Tehsil and a total of 100 houses were destroyed in Rahatgad Tehsil. Almost 60% of houses were destroyed leaving behind debris and damaged crops and even the cattles were affected. People managed to save few and rest got drowned in the flood. Due to flood, 55 hectares of land were destroyed, 272 families are homeless.

  • A farmer’s house was partially damaged due to flood in the Rehli block

  • A cow died soon after the catastrophic event in one of the village of Rahatgad block.

  • Flood Relief Response by CASA

    CASA in collaboration with Shram Shakti Mahila Seva Sansthan, Sagar provided relief to the 160 affected families in the six villages. A total of 480 food packets were served to the affected families. They also provided non- food items such as clothing to the children and women living in the villages. They continued the feeding programme for three days in six different villages.

    Samaj Kalyan Mandal, Betul is a partner organization of CASA also provided 400 food packets to the 150 affected families in 4 four villages in Rehli tehsil.
