1 INTRODUCTION

TOBIN Consulting Engineers (hereafter referred to as TOBIN) have been commissioned

to carry out environmental monitoring at the East Galway Landfill site, Co. Galway, in

accordance with condition 8.0 and Schedule D of Waste Licence No. W0178-02, issued

by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The site is located in an area bounded to the north by the Ballinasloe to Athenry road

(R348) with local roads to the immediate east and south, L7442 and L7439 respectively.

The area consists of low lying undulating topography interspersed with a number of small

hills.

This report contains the results of in-situ visual and odour monitoring of leachate for the

period October to December 2015. Results of daily leachate level monitoring for this

quarterly monitoring period have been included in Appendix B of this report.

1.1 Contributors to the Report

TOBIN was responsible for the preparation of this report and co-ordination and carrying

out of the environmental monitoring programme.

2 LOCATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF MONITORING POINTS

In accordance with Schedule D of the Waste Licence, monitoring was undertaken of Cell

1, Cell 2, Cell 3, Cell 4, Cell 5, Cell 6, Cell 7 and the Leachate Holding Tank (LHT).

All of these points are shown on Drawing 3588-1751, which is presented in Appendix A.

3 LEACHATE MONITORING

Leachate levels within the cells are monitored continuously, as per Schedule D.5 of the

waste licence. Temperature readings and visual/odour inspections are taken quarterly.

3.1 Leachate Levels

The leachate level results for the active cells from October to December 2015 are

presented in Appendix B. All leachate levels were compliant with the conditions of the

waste licence and did not exceed 1m above the top of the liner at the base of any cells.

Leachate levels will continue to be monitored closely.

3.2 Leachate Temperature

Leachate temperature recording and visual/odour inspection was carried out on the 19th

of November 2015. Temperature ranged between 10.4°C and 27.7°C. All temperature

recordings are represented in Table 3.1 below.

3.3 Leachate Sampling

Annual monitoring of Leachate was carried out on the 9th of July 2015; results were

submitted in Q3 2015.

4 SUMMARY & CONCLUSIONS

All leachate levels were compliant with the conditions of the waste licence and did not

exceed 1m above the top of the liner at the base of any cells. Leachate levels will

continue to be monitored closely.

Leachate temperature was within the normal range for the site.
