GUJARAT CLEANER PRODUCTION CENTRE – ENVIS RP 3
He mentioned that environmental conservation has been given huge importance in our
Indian Culture. It is always said that we and the entire cosmos is made of 5 elements
that are Space (Akash), Wind (Vayu), Fire (Agni), Water (Jal), Earth (Prithvi). The
knowledge of these elements is very essential for diagnosis of all the problems in life
whether it is related to body ailments, mind related issues, or even the spiritual aspects
of life. Imbalance of one or more elements can cause problems in one’s life and by
balancing these elements these problems can be resolved.
He briefed about the importance of each components mentioning that ‘Akash’ is the
space which the elementary particles like protons occupy as well as the space in which
the electrons revolve, ‘Vayu’ represents the force of movement of the electrons around
the nucleus, ‘Agni’ represents the latent (hidden) energy in an atom as well as the
release of energy when the atom is broken down, ‘Jal’ gives the force of cohesion that
allows the protons, neutrons and electrons to remain attracted towards each other and
‘Prithvi’ contributes the solid portion of the atom (i.e. the electrons, protons and
neutrons).
He continued relating the Indian mythology with the environment discussing about the
different ‘avtars’. He mentioned about the example of Lord Vishnu’s Matsya Avtar the
first Avtar of Lord Vishnu mentioning how fish saved the first man. He gave an example
of Hindu Mythology about taking a ‘Sankalp’ declaration of intent by taking water in the
right hand and sipping it after taking the sankalp before starting puja (prayers).
GUJARAT CLEANER PRODUCTION CENTRE – ENVIS RP 4
He mentioned that Indian Culture believe each and every element of the universe as a
God and worship it, whether it is water, tree, animals, etc. He gave very good
relationship between water on the earth and the water in the human body saying that
there is total 70% of water on the earth and the same is conceded in the human body,
this shows the relationship between humans and the nature.
Shri Hasmukhbhai Joshi, briefed about various ‘Puranas’ according to Indian Mythology,
based on the environment mentioning about the importance of Agni Puran, Vayu Puran,
Matsya Purana, etc. He mentioned that holistic approach has been showcased to save
environment in the Indian Mythology. He mentioned a very good saying towards
environmental conservation i.e., ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’. He appealed the
participants saying that ‘Act as if Earth is God and I am his Son’.
