Role of Educational Activities Chair

• Information Source for EAB activities, products/services to Region entities.

• Bring back issues of concern to Region to EA.• Provide some level of organization and support to education

opportunities within Sections/Consortium of Sections.• Plan and initiate activities in the area of concern to Region as a

whole such s accreditation, Curiculla, Cross certification, web based education.

• Provide and share information about programs and best practices.• Data base/information for Continuing Education Programs in the

Region.

2004 REPORTAccreditation Workshop

Successfully held in Bangkok on 6-8 November 2004. 56 people participated from Australia, Bangladesh, Hong kong,

India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Speakers/Organizers are from Austria, Japan, Thailand, and U.S.A. The program and photos are found in the EAB accreditation

workshop page. Reported in the December issue of “The Institute”. Questionnaire survey is now going on.

EAB/R10 Activities: Pre-College

o Vinny Competition-World-Wide Competition for One-Minute Videos Describing How Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) can Help Solve Common Global Problems http://vinny.pcs.cnu.eduo Impact: There is a mentor from Indonesia

o Hong Kong E-Week-EAB funded the HONG Kong Section in introducing the concept of Engineers Week(E-Week)o Impact: Hong Kong Section appointed two volunteers, Prof.

Richard Chen and Mr. Y.W. Liu, to “role out” E-Week in Hong Kong 2005

o EAB/IEEE Foundation Research Project- to have an inventory of pre-college educational activities throughout the IEEEo Impact: Make available on a website to help Sections etc. identify

resources, best practices and contacts to start or enhance pre-college programs, and to assist IEEE Foundation in making funding decisions regarding pre-college proposals

EAB/R10 Activities:Accreditation

Accreditation Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand(6-8 November, 2004) Attendance included participants from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Post-Workshop: EAB will poll participants asking them how they will use their new found accreditation knowledge.

November 2005: EAB will poll participants to determine if any countries have developed and/or improved their accreditation system as a result of the new found knowledge.

Educational Activities Coordinator-2005

Continue with the work of the Executive Committee and Educational activities Coordinator of the previous year.

Support the goals of sections Education Programmes to meet member needs.

Work towards possible Education partnerships with other agencies and Educational Institutions.

To encourage volunteer participation and involvement in professional development initiatives.

To encourage participation of involvement of section in planning project activities in tune with IEEE xplore objectives.

To provide and assist section and members in getting new and latest information on educational activities and initiatives of IEEE.

• A major overhaul of EAB website

Identify needs Global accreditation workshops

Assist in establishing new accreditation systems

Participate in ABET Substantial Equivalency Visits

Provide program evaluators for international activities

HOWEVER WE DO NOT HAVE “A SEAT AT THE TABLE” IN NON-US ACCREDITATION BODIES
