Collaboration project between the province of Overijssel, The Netherlands and Teleorman county, Romania

Visit Report, The Netherlands

Introduction

The visit to the Netherlands was focused on aspects related to flood protection, water and wastewater sector but also on the management of communication and involvement of the public in the areas mentioned above. The participants were from County Council Teleorman, River Basin Administration Arges Vedea, SGA Teleorman and Water Management Center. The visit took place in the period 16 29 May 2011. In total 9 participants joined. The visit was supported by two Romanian consultants (both member of the project team).

Program of the visit

Day 1

Travel from Bucharest to Zwolle, The Netherlands. Meeting with Frank Keukelaar from Royal Haskoning. Frank presented several aspects on regard to flood mapping And a series of informal discussions on regard to flood protection aspects and responsibilities on emergency situations took place during dinner.

Day 2

Travel from Zwolle to Doetinchem to the Water board Rijn and Ijssel. Bram Zandstra and Bert Alexander held a presentation on the activities, especially on dike maintenance and of international projects of the water board. Discussions took place on regard to the laboratory test made by the water board on the impact of waves on various types of grass. Even a pilot project ide came from Cristian Barbu about testing a specific type of grass on the dike sector in Teleorman.

In the afternoon, the delegation travelled to the water quality laboratory commune for the water boards Rijn and Ijssel and Regge and Dinkel.

Day 3

In the third day the delegation was split in two groups. First group (Mihaela Tudor, Dana Banu, Eugenia Preda, Mihaela Oproiu) went to Mapple and had discussions with the water boards Velt and Vecht on activity 5.1 and with water board Reest and Wieden on activity 4.

The second group, together with the water board Rijn and Ijssel went to visit the dikes and in the afternoon to the water company Vitens.

Travel from Amsterdam to Bucharest.
