ABOUT US

VietPro Annual Report 2016

Vietnamese Professionals in the UK (VietPro) was founded in January 2010 with the mission to becomethe hub for professional networking, skill building and promoting the community of Vietnameseprofessionals, students and people with interest in Vietnam.

Our members include more than 600 professionals and 10 University Vietnamese Societies. Togetherwith our partners such as the Vietnamese Student Association in the UK (SVUK), we have close link toover 8,000 students in the UK. With an increasing number of talented Vietnamese who graduate fromUK universities and subsequently work in various professions both in the UK and Vietnam, VietPro is agrowing, dynamic community that is diverse and ambitious.

VietPro has become a familiar name with the Vietnamese community in the UK. We are the first pointof contact for many students seeking career advice and mentoring support. VietPro’s regular eventshave become trusted brands, attracting top businesses including Prudential, Harvey Nash, StandardChartered, McKinsey, HSBC, Vietnam Airlines and the like.

We had a very busy but fantastic 2016 with launching the new series 'Be a better you' with the aim toprovide a platform for personal development for our members via two workshops and an outdoorevent. It was also the first year that we have issued the VietPro quarterly newsletters to keep ourmembers update on our events and activities. We have also maintained our signature series 'Inconversation with' with four events and successfully organised Prospect VIII.

We are committed to deliver more events and projects benefiting both the Vietnamese communityhere and back home in 2017.

VietPro continues our trademark series ‘In Conversationwith…’ in 2016 with three sessions: Prudential Vietnam,Contact Singapore and ICAEW Vietnam, with each eventattracted more than 50 attendees.

We have gained great insights from our amazing speakers,including the Vietnamese Insurance market, working inVietnam and Singapore.

In 2016, we launched a brand new series focusingon personal development through coaching andmentoring workshops – the ‘Be a Better You’series.

In our first 2 events, Mrs Tran-Boyd, a holistic lifecoach, took us through her tremendous careersas well as life-changing lessons, while Dr.O'Connor, director of Vision in Practice Ltd.,taught us a workshop on persuasion andinfluence.

40 professionals attended in each workshop. Theythoroughly enjoyed the speaker’s personal storieswhile learning to improve their own soft skills.

As part of "Be a Better You" series, we also organisedour first ever outdoor event and go Ape in one Augustweekend.

We flew down our zip-wires, leap off Tarzan Swing andtackle the challenging crossings. We were very scaredbut we got so much fun while channelling our innerTarzan - Each of us even got a Certificate (woohoo!).

In October, we held our trademarked event 'Prospect' inwhich we aim to help students in the UK in reaching theirprofessional aspirations. The sessions included a paneldiscussion with professionals across multiple disciplines, a CVchecking workshop, mock interviews and networking event.

Big thanks to our exclusive sponsor Prudential VietnamAssurance, our members and all Vietnamese Societies, we hit anew record with 120 students and 40 professionals turning upon the day. March 2016, VietPro carried on the tradition of partnering withCity University in holding Student Challenge 2016 – one of themost anticipated student events of the year.

Student Challenge combined the format from two popularVietnamese student game shows, ‘Duong len dinh Olympia’ and‘Rung Chuong Vang’, to push students through thrilling intellectualadventures, together with their teammates, against theirpeers from other schools.

More than 100 students from more than 20 universities UK-widecompeted in the event, showcasing their curiosity and ability afterrounds of solo and team quizzes, which required knowledge fromchemistry, sports, culture, and all the other topics. At the end ofthe day, team "All In" from LSE managed to best their competition.Congratulations to them and all the participants!

Throughout the year, VietPro organised severalnetworking events for our members. These eventsfoster our professional network and help ourmembers to meet new people and get to knoweach other better.

These events are usually organised once every 2months as events in their own rights, along with allthe other events in our calendar.

VietPro organised the annual Gala Dinner in 2016. This is thebiggest event in our social calendar to look back at the year and isa way for VietPro to thank our partners, sponsors, members whohave been actively contributing to our success during the year.

The 2016 annual Gala Dinner was organised at the cosy TheWalrus & Carpenter Restaurant. More than 80 people turned upand joined VietPro for a night of endless games and fun. The nightwas a huge success with great feedbacks from people whoattended.
