Current COVID-19 Concerns In Johnson County● Johnson County has 4,158 cases - The most of all counties in Kansas● Kansas named “red zone” state by the White House for having more than 100
new cases per 100,000 population last week● Georgia Tech developed tool showing currently in JoCo if you are at an event
with 100 people, there is 92% chance 1 person there has COVID-19.https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/
Johnson County Percent Positive Tests by Date
Johnson County New Cases Reported Each Day
The ScienceFrom the CDC: COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets released when people talk, cough, or sneeze. Early research is also showing very tiny respiratory drops may be picked up by ventilation systems and spread throughout a room. Spread can also occur on hands from a contaminated surface and then to the eyes, nose, or mouth.
The science is very clear that these mitigating measures WORK:
● Stay home when sick
● Social distance
● Wear a mask properly
● Hand hygiene
● Clean/disinfect frequently
● Cohort
Safe Learning/Work Environment
CDC GUIDELINESThe more people a student or staff member interacts with, and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread. The risk of COVID-19 spread increases in school settings as follows:
● Lowest Risk: Students and teachers engage in virtual-only classes, activities, and events.● Moderate Risk: Small, in-person classes, activities, and events. Groups of students stay
together with the same teacher throughout/across school days and groups do not mix. Students remain at least 6 feet apart, masks are worn, and supplies are not shared (e.g., hybrid virtual and in-person class structures, or staggered/rotated scheduling to accommodate smaller class sizes).
● Highest Risk: Full sized, in-person classes, activities, and events. Students are not spaced apart, no masks, share classroom materials or supplies, and mix between classes and activities.
Safe Learning/Work Environment
Statement from American Academy of Pediatrics“Returning to school is important for the healthy development and well-being of children, but we must pursue re-opening in a way that is safe for all students, teachers and staff. Science should drive decision-making on safely reopening schools. Public health agencies must make recommendations based on evidence, not politics. We should leave it to health experts to tell us when the time is best to open up school buildings, and listen to educators and administrators to shape how we do it. Local school leaders, public health experts, educators and parents must be at the center of decisions about how and when to reopen schools, taking into account the spread of COVID-19 in their communities and the capacities of school districts to adapt safety protocols to make in-person learning safe and feasible.”

THOUGHTEXCHANGE - Parents
With all that there is to consider,
what are your thoughts and
questions about the reopening
plans?
Thoughtexchange
Thoughtexchange: Top Thoughts
T1: “I appreciate the work you put into this. Our kids' need a good education and deserve to be safe. Teachers also deserve to be in a safe environment.”
T2: “IF school is cancelled again, will there be teachers actually teaching class on line? Especially for high school? My 8th grader basically didn’t have his last quarter of school. Very worried about the math. He couldn’t navigate the on-line teaching at all.”
T3-7: “What happens when a kid or teacher gets sick? because someone will”
THOUGHTEXCHANGE - Staff
With all that there is to consider,
what are your thoughts and
questions about the reopening
plans?
Thoughtexchange
Thoughtexchange: Top ThoughtsT1, 4: “What happens if a student or teacher tests positive? Will the school shut down? Do teachers have to take their own sick days? I think there needs to be very clear guidelines on what will happen well before the school year starts.”
T2, 9: “‘Monitor hallways for social distancing’ is not possible. Students thrive by being social. This guideline was written by someone who has not seen how students behave during passing periods.”
T3, 7: “We are certain to have some children needing online instruction if in-person school opens. Teachers must not be expected to prepare both styles. In-person instruction and distance learning are each a full-time position.”
T5, 8: “Who is paying for all the modifications we need to sort of stay safe? Plexiglass for all teachers? Masks? Sanitizer? Tissues? Bleach wipes? Cleaner? I don't get paid enough to buy those supplies out of my own budget.”
Student Attendance Preferences (Skyward)
• If you were to decide today, which of the following models would you feel most comfortable choosing for your child?
• Blended• On Site• Remote
• Do you have consistent and reliable access to the internet at home? (Yes, No, Sometimes)
• Which transportation option best describes your choice for the Fall semester?

Student Attendance Preferences (Skyward)If you were to decide today, which of the following models would you feel most comfortable choosing for your child?
Staff Return to Work SurveyI consider myself to be well informed on the basic risk factors, symptoms and protective measures related to COVID 19
Staff Return to Work SurveyI have been able to effectively perform my duties remotely during the pandemic.
Staff Return to Work SurveyI am comfortable returning (in person) to work.
Staff Return to Work SurveyThe installation of hand sanitizer stations, reasonable social distancing and enforcement of a mask requirement would increase my comfort in returning (physically) to work?
Staff Return to Work SurveyI have one or more high risk conditions for COVID 19. According to the CDC, high risk conditions may include age (65 or older), compromised immune system, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, chronic kidney disease, COPD, significantly overweight (BMI over 30), Sickle cell.
Staff Return to Work SurveyAssuming you and others are required to wear a mask and appropriate cleaning standards are maintained, how comfortable are you returning (physically) to work?
Staff Return to Work SurveyUnderstanding that the District has taken specific measures for workplace safety, and that staff will be returning (physically) to work, in accordance with your normal start date, what is your likely response?

Special Education Services (Ages 3-21)
SPED Services
Special Education team members will contact and collaborate with families to further develop a plan to implement current IEP services. Teams will work to strategically schedule students to minimize unnecessary exposure and/or large groupings of students. Staff will have access to personal protective equipment and guidelines for use to reduce the risk of potential exposure to students and building personnel. Safety and health guidelines, such as wearing masks, social distancing, and handwashing, will be adhered to across all settings.
Continuum of Services■ IEP teams will work to deliver services across learning environments, including onsite
within general education, onsite within special education, and remote (online).
■ Ongoing plans are being developed for services that occur within the community and/or within other agencies.
