Transforming our Thoughts

• The goal of renovation of the heart is to become like Christ

• If we truly want to become like Christ we need to first examine our thoughts

• Why are our thoughts so important?– Temptation begins as a thought– Thoughts control feelings to some degree– Thoughts are prerequisites to everything we do

Scriptures for and on thought

• Romans 12:1-2:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of

God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Scriptures for and on thought

• 2 Corinthians 10:4-54 “The weapons we fight with are not the

weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Scriptures for and on thought

• Matthew 16:21-23:21 “From that time on Jesus began to explain to his

disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
