Where Does Your Money Go?

Anne-Louise Bennett, PresidentReno Rotary Foundation

At Monday’s meeting, I explained how the proceeds from the Mardi Gras fund-raiser support two important charitable efforts of the Rotary Club of Reno and the Reno Rotary Foundation: the work of the Club International Projects Committee and the Club Community Services Proj-ects Committee. Allocations for those two committees equal $36,100 this year.

But what about all the other philan-thropic activities of the Reno Rotary? How are those activities funded?

Your fi rst $100 Honor Roll goes into the Reno Rotary Foundation for annual op-erations. Your $10 birthday gift also goes into the annual budget. And any additional Honor Roll donation you make during the year and designate for the Reno Rotary Foundation annual operations goes for this purpose.

For FY13, your Honor Roll and birth-day contributions are funding:

• $7,000 scholarships for TMCC stu-dents enrolled in vocational programs

• $4,000 scholarships for graduating Washoe High students to enroll in college vocational programs

• $300 books for Sierra Vista Elemen-tary students working with our Rotary Readers

• $7620 for students to participate in the Middle School Leadership Pro-gram

• $5,000 for eight high school students to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

• $1595 for the Education Collabora-tive/Career Coaching

• $20,000 for the Reno Rotary Founda-tion Local Grants program

This year we have 29 qualifi ed applica-tions from local non-profi ts and expect to award about ten grants on May 6.

So, thank you for your support! Your dollars are working hard to improve lives, locally and globally.

I’m proud to be a Rotarian—with you!

And don’t forget our Reno Rotary endowment, now valued at $380,000. The goal is $500,000, and reaching that goal will release $74,000 seed money back to the club for service projects. If you haven’t yet earned your Nugget pin, please consider a contribution to help us release that $74,000. See Pat Horgan or me for more information.
