Right-hander Billy Buckner gets the nod for Reno, opposite Sacramento lefty Ty Blach. Last Night’s Game: Shelby Miller fired eight innings of three-run ball and A.J. Pollock doubled and scored a run, guiding the Aces past the River Cats, 7-3, on Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field. Pitching in front of 8,480 fans, Miller delivered his fifth quality start in seven out- ings for Reno. The Aces (69-59) overcame an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth. Pollock’s two-bagger came with one away in the third, and an eventual throwing error by Joan Gregorio on a pickoff to third base skipped past Ali Castillo, allowing Pollock to race home for the tying run. Kyle Jensen then doubled and with two outs, scored on a base hit up the middle by Sócrates Brito. Leading 2-1, Reno added a pair of runs two frames later, thanks to the first of two triples in the game by Jack Reinheimer. The 24-year-old’s first three-bagger brought home Jensen and Brito, pushing Reno’s advantage to three. In the seventh, the East Carolina product tripled again but was stranded at third base. Reno tacked on another run in the sixth when Pollock brought Miller in from third on a fielder’s choice to shortstop, making it 5-1. Sacramento (59-69) chipped away in the seventh, scoring their final two runs against Miller. Austin Slater belted his second homer of the night out to right, bringing the visitors within three. Singles by Jarrett Parker and Grant Green set up a run-scoring double play, but the River Cats got no closer, falling to 2-7 against Reno this season. The Aces responded with two runs in the eighth against Alex Torres on two singles, a sacrifice bunt, wild pitch and fielder’s choice by Pollock which provided the final margin. Miller (5-1) scattered eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts over eight strong innings. Gregorio fell to 4-8 after surrendering four runs - two earned - on six hits and four walks with four punchouts over five frames. Jimmie Sherfy recorded the final two outs in the ninth for his 10th Triple-A save in 11 chances and 28th in 29 opportunities this year. Reinheimer led the charge for Reno, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Ronnie Freeman collected his first multi-hit game as well, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored. Ty Blach: 25-year-old Ty Blach starts for the River Cats today in game two of the series. Through 24 starts this season, Blach is 13-7 with a 3.49 ERA, having allowed 61 runs -- 58 earned -- on 137 hits over 149.2 innings with 35 walks and 97 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .247 against the southpaw. The lefty did face Reno on May 10 this year at Raley Field, taking the loss despite throwing seven innings of five-hit, two-run ball. This year, he ranks among PCL leaders in wins (1st), complete games (1st - 3), innings (1st), WHIP (3rd - 1.15), batting average against (4th) and ERA (6th). Blach went 1-2 in three starts against Reno in 2015, totaling 17.1 innings pitched while allowing 15 earned runs on 24 hits. He defeated the Aces on July 7 at Greater Nevada Field, while taking losses at Raley Field on June 19 and September 3. Blach owns a 44-31 record and 3.55 ERA over 98 games (96 starts) in the minors. He was selected by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Creighton University. Miller Time: Shelby Miller outdueled Joan Gregorio at Greater Nevada Field for the second time in three weeks in last night’s victory. Miller improved to 5-1 in seven starts for the Aces, five of them going as quality starts. Since his Aces debut on July 19, the 25-year-old right-hander ranks third in Minor League Baseball and fifth in pro ball in innings pitched (46.0), and his 51 strikeouts trail only current D-backs left-hander and former Ace, Robbie Ray (52), for the most strikeouts since that day. Pitchers Going Extra Bases: After strikeouts in each of his first two at-bats last night, Shelby Miller got the best of Vin Mazzaro in the sixth, launching a double off the right-field fence. He became the third Aces pitcher this year to record an extra-base hit, joining Matt Buschmann (1 double, 1 triple) and Edwin Escobar (1 double) as the only others to do so. Three-Base Machine: Over his last 10 games dating back to August 10, Jack Reinheimer has amassed 17 hits in 38 at-bats (.447), including three which have gone for triples. Reinheimer’s pair of triples last night made him the 10th player in franchise history to record two triples in a single game, with the last being Mike Freeman on August 1, 2014, at Fresno. Forcing the Issue: Reno’s Sócrates Brito and A.J. Pollock both swiped second base last night, giving the Aces multiple steals for a third consecutive game. The Aces have stolen 78 bags in 106 attempts this sea- son, good for a 73.6% success rate. Reno’s success rate is sixth-best in the league, trailing Omaha (78.6% - 88x112), Iowa (76.5% - 153x200), Nashville (75% - 54x72), New Orleans (74.6% - 97x130) and Colorado Springs (74.2% - 144x194). Billy’s Back: Billy Buckner (not that Billy Buckner) gets the nod for Reno today, returning to the Aces rotation for the first time since the 2009-10 seasons. Buckner, 32, went 12-4 with a 3.38 ERA in two seasons for Reno, with his win total ranking ninth all-time among Aces pitchers. In 16 games (11 starts) for Mobile this year, the righty went 4-6 with a 3.22 ERA over 72.2 innings. HR Trios: In 2015, Jamie Romak (27), Peter O’Brien (26) and Nick Evans (17) combined for 70 home runs, the most by an Aces trio in team history, narrowly breaking the 66 long balls hit between Cody Ransom (27), Wily Mo Pena (21) and Andy Tracy/Brandon Allen (18 apiece) in 2011. This year, Kyle Jensen (27), O’Brien (23) and Mitch Haniger (19) have amassed 69 home runs with 16 games remaining on the schedule. STREAKS This Date in Aces History The Aces are 5-2 all-time in games played August 21. On August 21, 2014, the Aces topped the Iowa Cubs, 7-2, at Greater Nevada Field. Today’s Starter: Right-hander Billy Buckner returns to the Aces and gets the nod against Sacramento in game two this afternoon. He signed with the D-backs as a minor league free agent on May 3, 2016, after spending the entire 2015 season with the Independent League Long Island Ducks where he went 8-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 18 games (11 starts). This year in 16 games (11 starts) for Mobile, the 32-year-old journeyman went 4-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 72.2 innings. He pitched for the Aces in both 2009 and 2010, combining to go 12-4 with a 3.38 ERA (55 ER/146.1 IP). His dozen victories rank ninth all-time in Aces history. Through 44 games (24 starts) in the Majors -- which includes stints with the Royals, D-backs, Angels and Padres -- Buckner owns a 7-12 record and 6.02 ERA.

Last Outing: Buckner’s last start for Mobile came on August 12 at Montgomery, and he took the loss after allowing five runs -- four earned -- on six hits and four walks with six strike-outs over 4.1 innings in the BayBears’ 7-5 defeat.

Against the River Cats: Buckner has faced Sacramento 16 times in his career, including 14 starts. He’s 6-6 with a 5.33 ERA (45 ER/76.0 IP) against the River Cats, having allowed 83 hits and 38 walks with 58 strikeouts. He started five games against Sacramento in 2014, going 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA (16 ER/21.1 IP).

Tomorrow’s Starter: The Aces will send right-hander Matt Buschmann (8-9, 5.16) to the mound tomorrow night. He fired a complete game on Wednesday in game one of a twin bill at Memphis, allowing one earned run on six hits over 7.0 innings in Reno’s 4-1 win. For the first time in 22 games (21 starts) this year for the Aces, he did not walk a single batter.
