Energy cooperation between Finland and Andean
region
Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs will launch a renewable energy and energy
efficiency program for the Andean countries (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and
Ecuador)
The program offers good opportunities for Finnish know-how and technology
providers
Budget of the program is 6,2 million EUR for 3 years
The Andean energy project will be launched in Lima, Peru on 7thof March, 2011

Energy generation in Peru
Energy generation capacity
Perus energy generation capacity is 7158 MW, almost half of this is hydro
power
Hydropower 45% (2008)
Thermoelectric 55% (2008)
almost entirely natural gas, only a small fraction is carbon and gasoline
Renewable energies Peru recently auctioned 17 hydro power plants
There is an energy integration agreement with Brazil with plans to establish up
to 6 000 MW of hydro power
172 MW of wind power, 80 MW solar power and 27 MW biomass was auctioned
in 2010
1000 MW more renewable energy projects to be auctioned By law, within a couple of years 5 % of the energy has to be renewable. As
Perus economy is growing and energy consumption as well, it will need to
continue promoting renewable energies and auctioning new projects.

Renewable energies Bolivia does not yet have wind or solar energy generation
installed
Bolivia is seeking to do feasibility studies for the installation of
solar and wind power projects
There are several hydro energy projects on the way
A lot of interest in the wind energy projects
Nearly half of the population in Bolivia (3.1 Million people) live in
rural areas, most without access to conventional energy sources
