René Corado was born in a village of 13 houses in Guatemala,
and now lives in Oxnard. He is a biologist and the Collections
Manager of the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology, a
museum with the largest collection of bird eggs and nests in the
world. He is also the author of the book El Lustrador (The
Shoeshine Boy), the story of his remarkable and difficult
journey from poverty and loss to a successful life. This year he
received the Guatemalan Writer of the Year Award, presented
in Hollywood. He is a graduate from Oxnard College.
