SincethevastmajorityofhospitalswereconnectedtotheChurch,veryfewwereabletostayopenafterthedissolution.AshospitalswereattachedtotheAbbeys,MonasteriesandConvents,itwastheMonksandNunswhoadministeredthecare.

HenryVIIIre-foundedStBartholomew'shospitalhimselfin1546.By1660,ithad12wards,300patients,3Physicians,3Surgeonsand15nursesaswellasnursinghelpers

Smallerhospitalsopenedup,fundedbycharitiesbutwithlessmedicaltreatmentbeingprovided.
