Warm Ups and Objectives
August 18th and 21st Write down why you
think it is important to study history?
Objective: Understand reasons behind studying and learning history. Introduction to what Renaissance is and why it began in Italy.
August 22nd and 23rd
Warm Up: What factors led to the Renaissance beginning in Italy?
Objective: Understand reasons why the Renaissance started in Italy. How Milan, Venice, and Florence contributed to Renaissance. Briefly describe the Italian wars. Why Machiavelli argued morality and politics should be separated.
August 24th and 25th Warm Up: Why was the
Renaissance an age of recovery? What was Europe recovering from?
Objective: Understand how Machiavelli’s ideas in The Prince transformed political theory. Know the differences in people’s (peasant, noble, father, mother, etc.) roles in Renaissance Society. How the printing press changed the world.
August 28th and 29th Warm Up: Explain the
following statement.
The ends justify the means.
How does it relate to Machiavelli’s The Prince
Objective: Understand how The printing press changed the world. Compare and Contrast Renaissance education to your education. Know the different characteristics/techniques (Fresco, realism, use of perspective, and anatomically correct) of Renaissance art.
August 30th and 31th Warm Up: Copy down the
definitions from the paper handout: Social, Political, Ingenuity, Cultural, and Economic.
Objective: Understand Humanism and its impact on Renaissance thinking. Compare and Contrast Renaissance education to your education. Trace technique changes in art and literature of art during the Renaissance.
September 1st and 5th Warm Up: What techniques
and methods did Renaissance artists use to produce more realistic art?
Objective: Review 12-2 and complete 12-2 reading quiz. Understand why there was a call to reform the Church. Trace the people and events that led to a split between Martin Luther and the Catholic Church
September 6th and 7th Warm Up: Describe in
2-3 sentences who Martin Luther was.
Objective: Analyze the reasons why people like Erasmus and Luther were calling for the Catholic Church to reform. Trace the events that led to a division of Christianity in Germany.
September 8th and 11th Warm Up: Why
did(especially during the Renaissance)/do people want to obtain salvation?
Objective: Analyze reasons Martin Luther gathered such a following compared to previous critics of the Catholic Church. Understand how Martin Luther and the Peace of Augsburg “paved” the way for other Protestant denominations.
September 12th and 13th Warm Up: What
issues/turmoil in the HRE allowed Lutheranism to survive?
Objective: Learn how to organize thoughts and ideas into an introduction paragraph and thesis statement. Analyze why Luther gathered such a large following.
September 14th and 15th Why did printing the
bible in the vernacular not return the church to its original simplicity like Luther had hoped?
Objective: Know how to compose a thesis and introduction paragraph. Introductions of “Spin-off” denominations due to Luther.
September 18th and 19th
Warm Up: Turn to page 419 and answer the geography skills questions.
Objective: Compare and contrast the different protestant denominations that started during the mid 1500’s
