3 What’s New in RemoteWare 4.3 SP4

This release includes fixed issues and the following enhancements:

Improved stability and performance enhancements for the Server.

Optimization of Scheduler functions improves speed and performance of scheduler.

New Worklist events and options.

o MOVE event – A new MOVE event is introduced in this Service pack that allows moving of

files easily between folders.

o FOLDER SYNC event – This event replicates Server folder structure on the client. The Sync

happens one way from Server to the client and is available for Windows and Linux clients.

o THROTTLE BANDWIDTH event for all client types – This event allows you to limit the

bandwidth used sending data to the client to either a given rate of bits per seconds or to a

given percentage. There are also other options to not limit the throughput at all or change the

current throughput. These throttle values are in effect for the session or until another throttle

bandwidth event is executed.

o Unassign event enhancements – Ability to now unassign clients from existing client groups

from within a workobject.

o Recursive option for Remove Directory – Ability to delete subfolders recursively.

o Recursive option for Delete files – Ability to delete files in entire directory tree recursively.

RemoteWare Administrator – Added ability to remove orphaned Admin accounts from RemoteWare Administrator.

Enhanced Security for Execution Server – The security for Execution has been enhanced by limiting access to the named pipe used by Execution server by including a username/password credentials.

EOL of Messaging, Subscriber, Workshop, Inventory Manager, Software Manager and Client Basic Scripting.

SPX/NetBIOS protocols are no longer supported. These would now be allocated as TCPIP ports.

Log Viewer Default Views for Server Message logs now include the Username, OS code and OS message to comply with PCI standards.

The Client Kernel right-click now displays Start/Stop RW service instead of Load/Unload kernel for all client running as a service.

Interactive Session and ECFs – Xpress Transfer option in Interactive session and ECFs

The OS field in Client Profile will now have a common entry for all Windows clients instead of specific OS lists.

New option in the Data Sources tab in Administrator to allow changing of the Database server or Database name. The Database name or Database server will need to be changed on each server/workstation in the cluster.

on the 10.2 kernel infrastructure.

4.2 Windows Vista and Later Environments and RemoteWare

Consider the following items concerning RemoteWare environments running on Vista, Windows 7, or

Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2008:

The "Real-Time Protection" setting in Windows Defender for Windows 8 can negatively affect the performance of the RemoteWare Workstation. Disabling this setting will allow Workstation to function as expected.

Installing RemoteWare Workstation, Portable, or Windows Client — RemoteWare operations require that the RemoteWare service have administrative rights and the logged on user have both access to the registry and the rights to create operating system global objects. Therefore, you must install the RemoteWare component while logged in as a standard user using "run as" local administrator context to execute the setup program.

RemoteWare operations, user rights for standard users — An administrator must grant users the following rights:

o Access to the RemoteWare data drive

o User Access Control (UAC) local policy rights

Ability to create global objects — enabled

Administrator approval elevated without prompting — enabled

Detect application installations and prompt for elevation — disabled

RemoteWare Client as a service, system tray control —RemoteWare Clients running as a service runs the system tray icon for all logged on users by default. To disable the system tray icon, delete the following registry key.

o Path — HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You must reboot the RemoteWare Server between installations if you install RemoteWare 4.3 SP4 immediately after installing any previous RemoteWare 4.3 versions.

You must uninstall Messaging, Subscriber, Workshop, Software Manager, Inventory Manager before upgrading to 4.3SP4. After the uninstall, it is recommended to delete any remaining workobjects for any of these components that have been uninstalled before upgrading to 4.3SP4. Reboot after the upgrade process.

Database string width restriction in setup program — the length for the Select a SQL Server field is limited by the width of the data entry field. The field syntax is:

<SQLServerMachineName>\<InstanceName> for a database that is a named instance and

<SQLServerMachineName> for a database that is the default instance.

Therefore, for all SQL Server versions, it is recommended that you install your database as the default, unnamed instance to avoid exceeding the length restriction. Additional techniques for shortening the data entry width include using lower-case letters or an IP address.

Client backup — unlike prior releases, Clients you upgrade to the new version can no longer communicate to an earlier-release RemoteWare Server after upgrading to 4.3SP2. In the event of an unsuccessful upgrade and Server rollback, you may lose connectivity with the Server. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you back up Client files before upgrading so that you can roll back to the pre-upgraded state if necessary.

Linux (Intel) Client upgrade — RW4.3SP2 release introduces new file libsbgse2.so. Copy it to the /nodesys path and your shared library path. If you are storing your shared library files in the /usr/lib path, then you are required to take no further action. If you are using another path, you must take the following actions.

location.

o Restart the kernel.

o Refer to your operating system documentation for more information about setting your

shared library environment path.

Registry keys — RemoteWare creates registry keys differently for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems:

64-bit — HKLM\Software\Wow6432node\RemoteWare

32-bit — HKLM\Software\RemoteWare

DOS IP customers — DOS IP files are now located in path <RWSServerInstall>\System. See file list.

Installing RemoteWare Workstation, Portable, or Windows Client on Windows Vista — See Windows Vista and RemoteWare.

6.2.1 Installing with SQL Server 2012

RemoteWare integration with SQL Server 2012 supported database editions require that you install the

RemoteWare Server and RemoteWare Workstation from a command line with specific parameters.

6.2.1.1 Installing RemoteWare Server

1. Open a command-line window. 2. Navigate the RemoteWare installation media to open the Server folder. 3. Launch file "serversetup.exe" with required parameters: ServerSetup.exe -IgnoreVersionInfo

6.2.1.2 Installing RemoteWare Workstation

1. Open a command-line window. 2. Navigate the RemoteWare installation media to open the Server folder. 3. Launch file "serversetup.exe" with required parameters: ServerSetup.exe -IgnoreVersionInfo -w

7 Remote Control NetOp Distribution and Update

This release does not include any NetOp files. It is recommended that new NetOp licenses now be acquired

directly from Danware. RemoteWare will continue to function with NetOp as before. Previous installations

of NetOp can be upgraded to NetOp 11.0 after upgrading to RemoteWare 4.3 SP4. The NetOp 11.0 is

available for download from the Downloads page for SAP. This topic applies only to those customers who

are upgrading from RemoteWare 4.3 and already have Remote Control NetOp Host installed on their

RemoteWare Clients. If you do not already have the host installed, then using RemoteWare Remote Control

NetOp Guide for your installation procedure, as written, will install the upgraded host.

7.1 Upgrading to NetOp Host 11.0

1. Use the Work Object Editor to update your Remote Control NetOp Host worklist.

a. Open the Events page and delete the contents.

b. Import the updated sample worklist:

<NetOpInstallSample.evf>

c. Save the event page changes and enable the work object.

2. Run a Remote Control NetOp Host session with your RemoteWare Client NetOp Hosts.

NOTE: When the kernel starts up it now checks to see whether NetOp is installed and whether the NetOp

service and host are running. If the NetOp service is not running the kernel starts it, then if the NetOp host

is not running the kernel starts it. The NetOp host requires the NetOp service to be running before it starts.

The kernel remembers which of these it started. When the kernel shuts down it stops the NetOp service or

host it started.

A registry key has been added to allow disabling the kernel starting and stopping NetOp. At startup the

kernel looks for a DWORD value named "NetOpStrategy" under the client key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\remoteware\client\<clientname>

If the value is there and is nonzero, the Remoteware kernel won't start or stop NetOp for IP connections.

8 RemoteWare 4.3 SP4 Fixed Issues

8.1 RemoteWare individual fixes

RemoteWare Server installation does not allow use of Windows Authentication when “Configure All” option at the “Database Settings” screen is used. [33403]

There is no Xpress Transfer keyword to enable Xpress Transfer via Session ECFs. [32688]

Using a % sign in a work object name will cause the genswo.ecf file to hang and not finish processing or creating the work objects [36398]

Execute events running a batch file on clients that takes uses the > logfile parameter to log the results to a log file and it takes the batch file longer than 2 minutes causing timeouts [39396]

Trying to update timezone in Client Profile on Windows7 and Server Windows 2008 R2 64-bit. systems will allow to change the value but will not allow to save it. [49188]

The "Install Level" and "Install Source" values for the RW 4.3 GA release registry key, "RemoteWare Setup" is incorrect and contains old release information. [16260]

When an Alternate Path for the ECF directory is specified, files are still placed in the default ECF path, <System install>\ECF. [1758]

NetOp 9.5 Host, using the Windows Installer package (.msi) and Transform File (.mst) file provided with RemoteWare does not work properly for TCP/IP Windows7 (x86) Clients. It could be only loaded manually as it was running in Session ID=1. [36667]

Document in Server Reference manual that we do not support Shift and AltGr with Remote Console. [16635]

9 RemoteWare Known Issues

9.1 RemoteWare 4.3SP4 Known issues

The following issues exist in this release :-

When using their large database (80+gig) and attempting to pull a report for Session Event Log on Completed Sessions, the report is not generated and the Report Manager UI closes.[26854]

Issues with the Server Profile "Extension Not to Compress" option and ecf files. If you add a "period" before the extension in the UI, the gensys.ecf will contain the "." and will not re-process and add the extension to a new system. [39102]

CHECK FILE EVENT: When using the CHECK FILE event, set as a critical event with retries enabled on the event and session, the session does not resume after the server is rebooted during retries to check for the flag file. Session status shows as critical and the next scheduled time for the channel to run is the next day at the scheduled start time.[36050]

Customer has csv files generated by a time sheet program. If the get file is done in a workobject which is assigned directly to the client it errors on the rename of the file from the temp format or on generating the file with no safe transfer. It generates an 1162 error as well as debug errors in the server message log. If you unassign the client from the workobject, and assign it to a session instead and run that, it works perfectly.[36049]

On an upgrade from previous versions to SP4, NETBIOS and SPX clients have an undefined resource instead of TCP/IP and the port groups are also not changed to TCP/IP port groups unless TCPIP is defined appropriately before upgrade. [43913]

Sync Folder event does not have the Checkpoint Restart option available when the Safe Transfer option is checked. In order to implement Checkpoint Restart, the CheckUpdates only checkbox must be checked but it is disabled in SP4 for this event. [49919]

The duration in session details for Sync Folder event is incorrect.[45879]

Using the Move event (Client) where the source file or the source directory does not exist, fails with unknown error.[50003]

Move command does not work when moving a folder to another folder destination that does not exist on a Linux client. [50406]

When the sync folder path contains a drive that doesn't exist on the RWClient, it gives an unrelated error -- An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file.[50411]

Send event with BLD option enabled and Check Updates option disabled, causes send to timeout during a session [50335]

Bandwidth throttling if used for a send event and a get event simultaneously with the same throttling event, only works for the first event set in that Work Object. In order to honor both events, each event has to be set in a separate Bandwidth Throttling WO even though the UI would allow to set both events in same Workobject.
