It was fabulous to see all of the children wearing red for a great
cause last Friday. All money donated is going to the Heart Link
Children’s Charity based at Glenfield Hospital. Thanks to your kind
donations we have managed to raise a total of…
£621.65!This is absolutely amazing and will help the unit out enormously!
On Thursday 5th March, it is World Book Day!
This year we have decided that we are not dressing up. However, if you have
already purchased an outfit for your child then you are more than welcome to
send them with it.
Instead, we are asking for you to send your child to school with a potato and
their favourite book to share with the class.
In the afternoon, we would also like to welcome all parents/carers to join us for
an afternoon of crafts. Come and show us your creative skills by helping your
child to make the book character of their choice! Please feel free to bring in props
and accessories for it too.
The sessions will run as follows:
Infants @ 1.45-2.15pm
Juniors @ 2.30-3.00pm
We hope you can make it!

As the discussions about Coronavirus are dominating the media, I want to reassure you that we are following all advice that comes into school from the DFE and Public Health England. You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus. There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting as normal. The most recent poster issued by Public Health England is on our website. Mrs Simpson
Curriculum Spotlight Event
Tuesday 3rd March – KS2
PARENTS WELCOME!
Have you heard about Kestrels Sticky Curriculum?
Have your children told you about their sticky
words?
Do you want to find out more about what your child’s
topic lessons include?
Do you want to spend some time with your child and
see their work?
Come and join curriculum innovators Mrs Hill and Miss
Hart in the Junior Hall on Tuesday 3rd March at 2:40pm
in the Junior hall. From 2.40-3pm we will give you an
overview of our new topic curriculum, some of the
reasons behind it and the subjects which it will cover.
You will then be invited to your child’s class to have a
look at how they record their work in journals. This is a
lovely opportunity to talk to your child about what they
have learnt and to see how they are now presenting their
work so creatively and expressing themselves.
Sports Update
Packed Lunch AuditEarlier in the Autumn term the Little Chefs completed a
packed lunch audit to see if we are getting all of the
vitamins and nutrients which we need. Since our last
audit our results have slightly dropped in amount of
protein and water being consumed but they are also
much higher than our very first audit in 2018.
The Little Chefs met to look at the results and discuss our
next targets as a school. We have agreed that children
need to lower the number of crisps and sugary snacks as
they have no nutritional benefit but there are around three
quarters of children eating them most days. We would
also like to work on having a balanced meal. This means
that children have something from all of the sections of
the Eatwell plate – Carbohydrates, Protein, Dairy, Fruit
and vegetables and water. They may have a small treat
but it isn’t actually needed to create a balanced meal.
Remember children should have:
FRUIT AND VEGETABLES, DAIRY,
CARBOHYDRATES, PROTEIN AND WATER.
Year 5 Visit to ConkersYear 5 has a great day at Conkers. We went there so
the children could develop their survival skills in order to
help them write an instructional piece about making a
fire when stranded on a desert island. They worked
brilliantly together to build shelters, gather firewood and
master the use of a flint and steel…and they might also
have mastered having a marshmallow or chocolate
biscuit to celebrate. They were a credit to the school
and we can’t wait to read their instructional writing.
Great job Year 5!
Year 4 Visit to Rutland Water
On Thursday and Friday this week, Year 4 have been to visit
Rutland Water. We were able to do some birdwatching where
we even tried to look out for a Kestrel!
We then went on to clean our own dirty water (the end winners
still didn’t look good enough to drink) but then the guide told us
about how water is filtered and how chlorine is added to kill the
bacteria!
Finally, we ended our day by having a tour of the reservoir and
the dam! We learnt so many amazing facts about how the
reservoir was built and what it is used for today.
Did you know that it contains 124 million cubic metres of
water!?
Thank you for your parent
questionnaire responses.
We will be providing you with a table
of results next week and some next
steps that we will be taking moving
forward.
If you still haven’t managed to see
your child’s class teacher for parents
evening, please follow this up with
urgency.

Science Week is taking place at Leicester Cathedral on
Saturday 7th March, 11am-1pm. It falls within National
Science Week so we are hosting a very special Science
theme Messy Cathedral. As ever there will be mess, fun,
activates to take part in, crafts to make and take home,
friendship and food! We are also in the season at the
Cathedral that is titled “Salt of the Earth” (so think of a cheeky
lunch that goes well with salt on it!) This is a FREE event!
It will be so good to see you there! If you would like to attend,
please go to Eventbrite for FREE tickets or you can follow the
link below to book.

Votes for SchoolsBefore half term it was Safer Internet Day. Our question was linked to this
and whether we can use the internet to become successful and as a career.
The question was “Do you want to be a youtuber?”
Each class discussed how this could be a positive idea as people become
famous this way and can earn lots of money. Others discussed it being
unsafe online and a bit of a childish career, when they grow up what will they
do?
Interestingly, most of our children agreed with the the UK with 60% thinking
they may want to be a youtuber and 40% saying they don’t want to.
REMINDER!Please remember to park safely when dropping and collecting
your children. We understand that parking is restricted
however this does not excuse dangerous parking, putting
children, yourselves and others at risk.
Please also remember that the area near the roundabout at
the Infant site IS NOT a zebra crossing. You must check left
and right, make sure no vehicles are coming before crossing.
