Trail MarkersStyrene trail markers are available free in limitedquantities to HCBC member clubs. These markersare 4.5 by 6 inches in size and can be nailed totrees to mark a trail.

There is space at the bottom to put directionalarrows or trail names with permanent markers. Contact Nancy at [email protected] to order, orcall 604-856-4304 or 1-800-345-8055, extension1009.

Note: As responsible horsemen and trail builders, itis important to remember that trees are living thingsand to respect them as such. Do not use steel nails, which can damage trees and cause disease, as wellas create a serious hazard for anyone who mayhave to use a chainsaw on the tree in the future. Use aluminum or nylon nails, and let them stick outenough to allow the tree room to grow, or nailthrough a used aluminum horseshoe (available fromrace horse owners or farriers) so the sign staysattached as the tree expands.

(Thanks to Larri Woodrow and Bill Archibald of BackCountry Horsemen of B.C. for the above advice.)
