Spark change in your citySynapcity is a local group dedicated to bringing people together to share ideas, understand new perspectives and collaborate on ways to improve our city. This year, Synapcity is organizing Ottawa's first-ever 100in1Day.

100inIDay is a global festival of civic engagement designed to inspire people to interact more with their communities. The first 100in1Day was held in Bogotá, Colombia in 2012. Since then, the festival has encouraged hundreds of one-day community-based projects in cities around the world with things like street art, urban gardens, beautification projects, social events, and improvements in city infrastructure.

Ottawa's 100in1Day festival is taking place on June 3, 2017. Synapcity hopes to feature 150 projects in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. Visit www.synapcity.ca/100in1day to learn more or to submit your idea for the festival.

Renting your apartment on Airbnb is not allowedDid you know? Your CCOC lease does not allow you to sublet your apartment. With Canada's 150th anniversary taking place in 2017 and many tourists visiting Ottawa, the use of vacation rental sites such as Airbnb is on the rise in our city. However, listing your apartment on Airbnb is a violation of your CCOC lease and could put you at risk of losing your home.

Section 2(b) of the lease you signed states that: "You agree not to sublet or assign the unit or any part of it."

Renting out your apartment, or part of your apartment (for example, one room in your two-bedroom home) through Airbnb is considered a sublet.

CCOC has served eight Airbnb-related eviction notices so far. It's not worth the risk! If you have any questions about this policy, please contact your Rental Officer.
