Principal’s Note
Remembrance Day
On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front
fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With
their armies retreating and close to collapse, German
leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First
World War. Each year on this day Australians remember
those who died or suffered in all wars and armed
conflicts.
Last Monday our students walked down to
commemorate Remembrance Day and lay a wreath at
the Junee Cenotaph. I would like to commend our
students on the way they conducted themselves while
paying their respects to those who served our country
and continue to do so.
Proud and Deadly Awards
Last week, some of our students would have received
invitations to attend the Proud and Deadly Awards.
These awards are presented in partnership between the
Department of Education and local and Riverina
Regional Aboriginal Education Consultative Group
(AECG) in celebration and recognition of the
achievement and excellence of Aboriginal students from
Kindergarten to Year 12 in Public Education. This year
the award ceremony is being held at the Wagga Wagga
Civic Theatre on Tuesday 26th November at 10:15am.
Students are to attend using private transport and
parents are encouraged to come and watch their child
receive their prestigious awards. If you are unable to
attend and your child requires transport to the event
please contact the school as soon as possible.
Christmas on Broadway
This year we will join other schools and the community
for the annual ‘Christmas on Broadway’ which is being
held on Saturday 23rd November. All students have
been busy practising a set repertoire of songs which will
be performed on the evening. We hope to see as many
students and families as possible to represent our
school and enjoy the festivities on the night. Students
have been asked to wear Christmas clothing. Mrs
Leonard has already sent home a note detailing more
information about the event.
2019 School Planning
Now that we have our anticipated funding for next year
and a prediction of student enrolments, we will be able
to start planning class structures and staffing for 2019.
This is only a planning stage, it is important to point out
that these plans can be subject to change depending on
our actual student enrolment numbers for next year.
Our teachers know our students very well, and much
discussion is had around this aspect of school planning
in staff meetings and at an executive level. Once we have
confirmed these arrangements, we will provide this
information to families as soon as possible to ensure a
smooth transition for all of our students.
Enjoy the remainder of your week!
Kind Regards,
Tracy Delaney
News from the Classroom
Halfway through our final term for 2019! Guguburra is
still a hive of activity. So far this term we have completed
swim school, had a trip to Wagga for Chords and
decorated bags to be used at Christmas on Broadway.
In writing, we are revising the main texts types and
looking more closely at the types of language to use
when we are writing each of these. We are reading a
number of John Fardell books- Manfred the Baddie is a
favourite at the moment. As a follow up to this we will
try to design our own ingenious machines and use some
of his fantastic ‘Wow words’ in our own writing.
In independent reading, many students are developing
their personal favourite chapter book authors and
series. Some of our series recommendations include
Weirdo by Ahn Do, Bad Guy by Aaron Blabey, Captain
Underpants by Dav Pilkey and Andy Griffith’s Treehouse
books. Many students are also enjoying expanding their
knowledge with Non-fiction books. If Santa is listening
Ms. Fixter says that Guguburra students would really
love some good books for Christmas, so they can keep
up their reading over the holidays. A town library card
is also a great idea!

One of the strategies we have been working on in maths
is the split strategy for addition and subtraction. If you
don’t know what this is, Guguburra students will be
happy to explain.
We are showing how well our PBL lessons have been
working as we are staying focused on being Respectful,
Responsible and Successful even when we have some
major renovations happening just outside our class. The
work for our playground redevelopment is moving
ahead and it is hard to tell if the students or staff are
more excited about the mud kitchens.
This fortnights PBL focus is ‘Be Safe’. We currently have
several areas of building work happening in the school
and students are having to be responsible and use those
areas safely. We will review our playground supervision
processes when the areas are completed to allow
students to enjoy our upgraded playground safely and
to ensure appropriate teacher supervision. Being safe is
also a value student’s use in the classroom and outside
the school. With the holidays fast approaching it is
important for students to remember how to be safe
when riding bikes and scooters and swimming in pools
and rivers. We will talk to students about the things they
need to be aware of to keep safe in the holidays.

Are you ready for the Colour
Run 4 Fun?
The School Run4Fun Colour Explosion will be held on
December 13, 2019. The day’s focus is on fun and
fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our
school’s P&C. The colour powder used in our event has
been sourced direct from India, the home of Holi
Powder. It is made of high quality corn starch and
permitted food colours. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable,
skin safe and environmentally friendly.
Last term, students received a Sponsorship Form with
instructions on how to raise money and order prizes.
Students can obtain donations in cash using the
Sponsorship Form together with online fundraising.
Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive
an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim
higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5)
prizes!
Student Profile Page
Create a Student Profile Page at
www.myprofilepage.com.au which is unique to you.
There are also some great features like recording your
sponsorships (cash donations) and selecting your prize
goal. Well done to those students who have already
done this! You can also register for online fundraising.
It’s the easiest way to help your child raise money and
to reach your fundraising goal sooner. Ask all your
family and friends by sharing it on your
parent/guardians Facebook page.
How to Order Prizes?
To reward your child for their efforts, they will receive
incentive prizes based on the total amount of
sponsorship dollars raised in cash or online. Please
note all donations need to be finalized TODAY
FRIDAY 22 NOVEMBER.
After TODAY November 22, you have two options to
place your prize order:
1. Login or create a Student Profile Page at
www.myprofilepage.com.au. Once the fundraiser has
finished, click the ‘ORDER MY PRIZE’ button and then
confirm your total amount raised and order your
prize/s, OR
2. Complete the back page of the Sponsorship Form
you received in term 3 and return to the school.
Student prizes will be delivered before the end of the
school year.
Thank you in advance for your participation, and get
ready for a BLAST OF COLOUR! Happy fundraising!
