Memorials provide a long-lasting, elegant and visible epigraph to the memory of your loved ones. This brochure provides information of the beautiful range of memorial products we are able to offer.

Introduction


Media tributes during the cremation service

Music

Music is a very important part of a funeral service. We are able to play any piece of commercially recorded piece of music during the service. Please speak to your funeral director to request the music or contact Wesley Media on: 01536 314 914.

Web broadcasts

Live web broadcasting enables a funeral service to be transmitted live around the world for absent family and friends. The service is transmitted on a secure network, so that only invited guests can watch.

Recordings of the service

Recording the service means you can look and/or listen back to the service in the future. Copies of the service can be made available on DVD or CD.

Visual tributes

A combination of family photos or videos of your loved on can be played on the screen in the chapel during the service. These can be accompanied with music.

A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for all media options

Ashes: scattering ceremonies, urns and caskets

Scattering ceremonies

The remains of your loved ones can be respectfully scattered within the beautiful grounds of the crematoria, by a member of our team at no cost.

If you would like to be a part of the scattering ceremony, or would prefer the ashes to be scattered in a cemetery or natural setting, this can also be arranged. Charges will apply.

Urns and caskets

We offer a range of urns and caskets for you to store the ashes of your loved ones. These come in a variety of materials, see the price list at the back of this brochure for more details.

Please note, we are able to store the remains of your loved ones for one month free of charge, but after that there will be a charge.



Crematoria Plaques

Memorial plaques provide a lasting commemorative tribute to loved ones; they are a special way to assure your loved one is remembered for years to come.

We have a wide range of memorial plaques available at our crematoria, suiting different budgets and made in different styles and materials.

Crematorium plaques

Wall plaques

Memorial wall plaques are a lasting tribute to loved ones; they are displayed in hardwood display boards on walls inside the Book of Remembrance room at both Wakefield and Pontefract Crematoria.

Memorial rose tree plaques

The Gardens of Remembrance at the crematoria are spaced with rose beds containing a variety of rose trees. Each rose tree may be dedicated to the memory of a loved one and a small plaque placed next to the rose.

Granite memorial plaques

Engraved memorial granite plaques are available to commemorate loved ones in the crematoria Gardens of Remembrance on ten year leases. The plaques are made of polished black granite and enamelled light grey. Flower vases have been situated amongst the plaques in matching granite units to enable families to leave floral tributes for their loved ones.

Path kerb bronze memorial plaques

Bronze plaques are available for placement on kerbs in our crematoria. Each plaque is individually cast with a personalised inscription.

Memorial tree plaques

At both crematoria we have a beautiful handmade memorial tree. Each leaf on the tree can be dedicated to a loved one, which is a wonderful way to help preserve the memory of that special person.

Bird boxes

Bird boxes come with a plaque, and are fitted to trees around the grounds of the crematoria or cemeteries.

All crematoria plaques are for a ten year lease. Leases can be renewed. During the terms of the lease you are able to amend existing plaques. For example, this could be if you wished to add the name of another loved one.


Burials

We have a limited number of grave plots available at our cemeteries. These can also be pre-purchased so that you can plan ahead for a specific plot or reduce costs of a future burial.

If you are interested in purchasing a burial plot for a loved one that has recently passed away, or as a pre-purchase for the future, you should contact us on 01924 307 446.

Staff are available to meet families at the cemeteries to help with plot selection for new graves (limited availability) or pre purchased graves.

Memorial plaques

Memorial plaques are available in the majority of our cemeteries. They come in either black polished granite or bronze. Granite plaques come with a flower container, whilst bronze plaques come with a holder for a vase. The cremated remains are interred with the plaques. Plaques in the cemeteries are fitted for a lease period of 25 years.

During the terms of the lease, you are able to amend or replace any existing plaques. For example, this could be if you wished to add the name of another loved one.

Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance at both Wakefield and Pontefract Crematoria provides a lasting and dignified memorial. The Book of Remembrance is on display at both crematoria and is comprised of several volumes one for each quarter of the year. Displayed in glass protective cases, the books are always open on the current date, meaning inscriptions can be seen on the anniversary of the death, or any other date specified.

The volumes are handmade and are composed of the finest hand-made paper. Each memorial entry is carefully inscribed by a highly skilled calligrapher and artists under the date the family choose.

The minimum entry is two lines consisting of the name of the deceased on the top line, with a personal inscription on the second line. Entries of five or eight lines are also available and these can be accompanied with a floral emblem, badge or coat of arms.

Book of Remembrance entries last forever and are permanent long lasting memorial to your loved one.

Replica memorial cards are available for those wishing to retain a copy of the inscription at home or to send to relatives or friends who live away.

Also located in each Book of Remembrance room is a visual display unit. This allows any entry that has already been inscribed in one of the books to be viewed on any day of the year. The computerised version is operated by touching the screen and following simple instructions. A “zoom” facility allows a particular entry to be selected from the full page and shown in close up.

Benches at cemeteries and crematoria

A wooden bench can be placed within any of the cemetery and crematoria grounds in a location agreed with us. Initially for a period of ten years, benches include a plaque inscribed with your personal message.

We also offer rustic style benches within our parks and countryside sites for a 6 year lease.

Additional plaques can be added if required.



Ashes into Glass

Ashes into Glass Jewellery is hand-crafted in specialist workshops in Billericay, Essex. Your loved one’s cremation ashes, coloured glass crystals and clear molten glass are expertly layered together using traditional techniques to create a beautiful, last tribute to the ones you hold dear.

Ashes into Glass Jewellery will remind you that your loved one is always with you. By wearing it each day you will connect with your loved one and share special moments together.

Bereavement Services work together with Ashes into Glass to place and create the order.

Items of jewellery available from Ashes into Glass include

Barbican Tower

The Barbican Tower is set in the beautiful gardens of Pontefract Crematorium, and offers an elegant and stylish option to remember your loved ones. You can lease a granite plaque on the tower for ten years.Your text will be added to the plaques in silver lettering, and there are options to add your own photo, or choose from our large range of motifs.

Graves for cremated remains

This memorial allows for the below ground interment of two sets of cremated remains within a watertight chamber. The granite memorial provides a large removable plaque which is suitable for two inscriptions, together with a kerb-set that mirrors that of a traditional grave. The memorial is supplied with ‘chippings’ as illustrated and a vase.The grave is made with light-grey granite, with a black marble plaque, with gold lettering and a gold vase. Leases are for fifty years.

SanctumSanctums are above-ground vaults, designed to hold cremated remains, creating a tasteful memorial to your loved ones in the peaceful grounds of Pontefract Crematorium. The Sanctums are large enough to securely hold two sets of cremated remains.They are light grey granite, with blue pearl plaques placed onto them. Silver lettering can be tailored to meet your needs, and there are options to add photos or choose from our many motif designs.


Plaques on granite benchesOur new granite benches are set in a peaceful location at Pontefract Crematorium. They offer an ideal location in which to dedicate a memorial plaque to loved one. The benches and plaques are sturdy, and resistant to the weather, providing a long-last memorial. We offer a plaque for a ten-year lease, with the option to extend the lease. Your text will be added to the plaques in silver lettering, and there are options to add your own photo, or choose from our large range of motifs.

Bereavement ServicesMemorial Application Form

Terms and conditionsGeneral1. No exclusive rights of burial will be granted.2. Only plaques as prescribed and fixed by the Council will be allowed.3. Plaques are fitted at the owner’s risk.4. Inscriptions shall not exceed the stipulated number of letters, (wording subject to the approval of the Authorised Officer).5. The planting of trees, shrubs or any other plants is not permitted.6. Interference with the plaques is not permitted.

Cemetery granite plaque1. Plaques shall be fitted for a lease period of 25 years.2. All plots will be allocated in strict rotation.3. Cremated remains will be buried in a biodegradable urn and will not be permitted without obtaining a plaque.4. A maximum of four sets of cremated remains shall be interred in each plot.5. The strewing of cremated remains is not permitted.6. Reserve spaces are permitted (on receiving full payment and shall be fixed for a lease period of 25 years, all reserved plaques may be amended within the 25 year lease period when used, fee applicable).7. Plaques may be amended to incorporate other names (within the 25 year lease period fee applicable).8. No grave identification marker, vases or any other article will be permitted to be placed on the burial ground. (Excluding vase provided).

Cemetery bronze plaque1. Plaques will be fitted for a lease period of 25 years.2. All plots will be allocated in strict rotation.3. Cremated remains will be interred loose directly in to the plot.4. Only one set of cremated remains shall be interred in each plot.5. The strewing of cremated remains is not permitted.6. Reserved spaces are permitted (on receiving full payment and shall be fixed for a lease period of 25 years, all reserved plaques may be amended within the 25 year lease period when used, fee applicable).7. Plaques may be amended to incorporate other names (within the 25 year lease period, fee applicable).8. A vase holder will be supplied with each plaque.9. No grave identification marker, vases or any other article will be permitted to be placed on the burial ground.

Crematoria granite, rose and bronze plaques1. Plaques shall be available for renewal at the end of the 10 year lease period.2. Reserve spaces are permitted (on receiving full payment plaques may be amended (within the 10 year lease period, fee applicable).3. No vases, pots or containers or any other article is permitted (with the exception of granite plaque where vase is supplied).4. All articles placed on the grounds will be removed on a daily basis.5. Cremated remains cannot be strewn or interred immediately behind a plaque.6. Floral tributes cannot be accommodated adjacent to plaques due to lack of available space and to retain the aesthetic appearance of the crematoria grounds.

Crematoria wall plaques1. Plaques shall be available for renewal at the end of the 10 year lease period.2. Reserve spaces are not permitted but plaques may be amended to incorporate other names (within the 10 year lease period, fee applicable).3. No vases, pots or containers or any other article is permitted.4. All articles placed in the room will be removed on a daily basis.5. Floral tributes cannot be placed in this room.

Memorial benches 1. There are two types of benches Rustic and Urban.2. The rustic bench is only available at some limited Street Scene sites and will be for a 6 year lease period.3. The urban bench is only available for use in Cemeteries and Crematoria and Parks and will be for a 10 year lease period.4. Benches are fitted as a donation to the site location.5. Benches will be removed before the end of the lease period if it is deemed to be in a dangerous or unfit condition, (any plaque will be removed and placed in safe storage for collection).6. Because of limited space when the designated area is full, applicants can be placed on a waiting list.7. At the end of the lease period the bench will be removed and the plaque placed in safe storage for collection.8. No vases, pots, containers, floral tributes or any other article is permitted; any items will be removed.
