Each of us wakes up every morning and for the most part lean over to turn off the alarm clock and rise for the day. Breathing each breath without the contemplation of the grace bestowed upon us by God that makes up each breath. Just as He tells us that He actually has each hair counted on our head, I wonder if there is a count for each breath taken, written down somewhere in the book of life. On January 29, 2012 Bill Garland, our friend, our colleague, servant of God to so many, left this world to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bill was a blessing to us all. Whether he was walking down the hall-way whistling a tune, making sure someone got the housing assistance they needed, laughing at a joke or playing the guitar Bill was always there to show us what grace was all about. e grace of Jesus is the thread that runs so true through Bill’s life. When we talked about his ministry at Cornerstone the first thing that came to my mind was grace. Grace- the undeserving mercy of God shown to broken sinful people, the center point of Jesus’ gospel- is the thing Bill came to value as most precious of all, the defining center of everything he was and did. Grace in Jesus was his north star and the theme of his story in ways he knew and in ways he was still discovering. I’m reminded of Paul’s words in Eph. 3:2-3, 7-12: assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly…. Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. is was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. Bill blessed us with 14 years of his life here at Cornerstone Rescue Mission and it is an honor and privilege that God graced us by his breath.e Father honors him. So do we. We thank God for the honest life and Jesus-shaped ministry of Bill Garland. In his honor our chapel will be dedicated to him. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

~1 John 3:18~ Numerous families have come to count on Dear Ones Child Care for their children. They have shared the relief they feel knowing their children are not only cared for, but nurtured. This allows the parents to continue their education, find employment and establish permanent housing. The longing they have for a brighter future for their family is becoming a reality to many of them. One example of success is a young mother and daughter, Abby and her daughter Jessie. They fled from an abusive relationship and lived in a Domestic Violence shelter before moving to the Cornerstone Women and Children’s Home. After a long search she found employment and housing; she is supporting herself and her child with very little government assistance. Abby is a very devoted mom and even though every day is a struggle, she has a very positive outlook, keeps her head up and faces life one day at a time. She recognizes her accomplishments but knows there is more to do. When asked about Dear Ones, she said with a big smile, “the staff at Dear Ones rock”!

We are privileged to support a special cliental, including families from Cornerstone, Full Circle, Behavioral Management, Department of Social Services and the Department of Labor. We recently opened our program to the children of the Oglala Sioux Tribe Access to Recovery Program. Each child that comes thru the doors of Dear Ones continues to grow and blossom in the security and safety of consistent care and nurturing. Every child deserves to be loved, cared for and safe. We want to say a special “Thank you” to our donors who make this possible.

Being the Hands and feet of Jesus Cornerstone Rescue Mission has a unique opportunity for your church members, young adults, Men’s or Women’s Ministry group or a team from your organization. We are currently looking for a group to help provide, cook and serve a meal at the mission. We have several days open to choose from:

2nd Sunday of the month Lunch @ 1:30 every month, starting immediately

5th Tuesday Supper @ 6:00, 2012 dates are May 29th, July 31st, and Oct. 30th

5th Sunday Supper @ 6:00, 2012 dates are April 29, July 29, Sept. 30, and Dec. 30th

Our kitchen crew can help your group the first couple of times until you feel comfortable doing it on your own. Food can be provided in a variety of ways, and the blessings received thru serving others in this way will pour out to each and every one who serves.

Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

Duet. 15:10

We are so honored to have many churches and parishes, groups from Ellsworth Air Force Base and other organizations furnishing meals every month for the homeless and needy of our community. The mission has seen an increase in the number of children and families needing meals, and we want to thank those who have been providing those meals at Cornerstone for so many years. Please consider becoming one of a growing number of volunteers willing to reach out to those in need. Call Judy at 718-8712 or email: [email protected]

It must be true; our Veteran’s are proving it while learning new skills on the computer. A computer lab complete with volunteer IT instructors has been set up as part of the new Veterans Outreach Center. Johnathan Breeden, a Veteran and student in the Information Technology Program at National American University

heads up the computer lab classes. Johnathan specializes in computer security and forensics. He and the other students from NAU teach two classes every Friday. They tailor the class to fit the need, including basic computer knowledge, file copying, creating folders, usage of USB ports, etc., with plans to add resume writing. The Veterans are enjoying getting familiar with the Veterans Administration website, and learning how to order their medication directly from the VA. The computer lab has proven to be a favorite at The Veterans Outreach Center. Not too long ago one of the homeless Veterans staying in the transitional housing program at the mission saw an ad in the paper for a job at Lowes. He walked to Lowes to apply only to find out they did not have employment applications there, only online. He had never learned how to use a computer and reluctantly admitted to one of our staff that he wished he understood computers. With the help of the volunteer instructors, and the computer lab, every Veteran can be given a chance to learn now. Thanks to the group from NAU for your time and compassion for others.

never too old to learn!
