When you do such a comparison you see that whole grain choices are healthier than processed grains. Whole grains contain more vitamins and minerals and are higher in fiber. Processed grains can be enriched to recover some of the lost nutrients, but the lost fiber can't be recovered.

Earlier in the lesson we talked about portion sizes. How larger portions are contributing to the obesity epidemic.

We looked at healthy choices one could make in their diet to avoid issues.

For this remediation, we will take a closer look at healthy dietary choices by comparing foods.

However, calories are not the only thing to consider.

Milk beats soda hands down when it comes to vitamin and mineral content.

Baked Potato vs French Fries

Baked potatoes contain more vitamins and fiber if you eat the skin.

French fries are higher in fat due to frying and are also higher in sodium.

Grilled Chicken vs Hamburger

In comparing two similarly sized sandwiches, one finds both to be close in calorie content.

The hamburger has more calories from fat and is also higher in sodium.

The grilled chicken contains more protein.
