Thuraya ReliefComms adopts a holistic approach to help relief, medical, welfare and humanitarian NGO workers establish vital communication links in areas not served, disaster hit or under served by terrestrial networks. This includes:

• Educating and preparing first responder and emergency services teams on MSS solutions in the event of any disaster to aid infrastructure establishment

Working with non-profit organizations to rebuild communities

International Telecommunications Union (ITU)Thuraya has a longstanding relationship with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to provide free or subsidized communication services in countries affected by natural disasters. Thuraya has worked closely with a number of govern-ments in afflicted countries, through our local Service Partners, to provide our services in aid of disaster recovery commu-nications. A key example of our work includes deploying the Thuraya XT hand-sets in support of emergency communica-tions in Japan, immediately after the earth-quake and tsunami in March 2011. Thuraya also supported ITU teams in China, Indone-sia, Samoa, Malawi and Turkey.

Nature Iraq, Tigris River FlotillaThuraya ReliefComms is supporting Nature Iraq to raise awareness of the conservation of natural resources and cultural heritage of the Tigris and Euphra-tes River Valley. Thuraya sponsored the

team with the Thuraya IP+ broadband terminal as well as airtime to help them stay connected as they embark on their inaugural journey down the river. The project seeks to showcase the impor-tance of the Tigris River as well as connect conservation issues with daily life and spur more people to take action towards conserving this vital waterway, rebuilding its community and ecosys-tem.

NetHopeThuraya partnered with the international humanitarian agency, NetHope to provide communication services in the Philippines, soon after Typhoon Bopha destroyed terrestrial communications networks in the country. Thuraya’s dona-tion of satellite communications equip-ment helped more than a dozen NGOs and local agencies that were leading the disaster recovery efforts in the most adversely affected province of Davao Oriental.
