Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, which causes painful irritation, stinging and an unpleasant burning sensation when passing urine. Most of the time, the inflammation is the result of a bacterial infection and is referred to as a urinary tract infection (UTI). The treatment of choice for a UTI is an antibiotic. But, while you are waiting, there is a solution to help reduce the pain associated with cystitis. Cystoplus ® is available without a prescription, so you don’t have to wait for pain relief from cystitis. Cystoplus ® is not a treatment for cystitis. However, it can help relieve the symptoms. The classic symptoms of cystitis include: a stinging or burning sensation when you pass urine (also called dysuria) the need to pass urine more often (frequency) feeling you want to urinate urgently, even if you pass very little or no urine (urgency) Mild cystitis usually clears up within 4-9 days. However, you should seek medical advice if you experience more than just mild symptoms such as: painful urination blood in your urine pain in your lower back or side fever and chills nausea and vomiting It is important that you consult your doctor if you have acute cystitis symptoms because when left untreated, a bacterial infection can spread to your kidneys and lead to serious health problems. You should also see your doctor if you: experience cystitis symptoms for the first time have had cystitis three times in one year Cystoplus ® is indicated to relieve the burning pain & stinging symptoms associated with cystitis in women. The active ingredient of Cystoplus ® is sodium citrate. Sodium citrate is an alkalizing agent which decreases the acidity of the urine, thereby reducing the burning pain and stinging associated with cystitis. Cystoplus ® has a quick 2-day dosage. You simply need to dissolve the contents of one sachet of Cystoplus ® (cranberry flavoured powder) into a glass of water and drink it, 3 times per day, for 2 days. Each package of Cystoplus ® contains 6 sachets, enough to complete your 2-day dosage. You must take all 6 sachets over 48 hours to complete the symptomatic treatment, even if you are feeling better. Cystoplus ® can be started as soon as possible after the onset of cystitis symptoms such as painful urination, frequency and urgency. Even if your doctor decides to prescribe an antibiotic to treat your cystitis, you can still use Cystoplus ® to help relieve the painful symptoms. Cystoplus ® is indicated in adult women suffering from cystitis symptoms. The only non-prescription option specifically indicated to relieve the burning pain & stinging symptoms of cystitis in adult women. • Consult a doctor if you have any of the following conditions: heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure or diabetes or if you have other underlying or ongoing health concerns.

• Inform your doctor if you are taking other medicines, especially ACE inhibitors, diuretics or cyclosporine.

• Do not take more than 3 sachets in 1 day.

• If you accidentally take more than the recommended dose, seek medical advice.

• Use caution when administering to the elderly.

• Do not use if you are taking lithium or hexamine, are on a low-sodium diet, or are sensitive to any of the ingredients.

• Do not use if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

• Not recommended for use in men and children.

Possible side effects associated with Cystoplus® include �atulence and frequent urination. If you experience any unusual side effects while taking this medicine, discontinue use and consult your doctor or pharmacist.

• Avoid having sexual intercourse until your cystitis has cleared up.

• Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.

It is not always possible to prevent cystitis, but the following list includes measures that can help you avoid the condition.

• Drink plenty of liquid, especially water.

• Avoid using chemical irritants (ex., perfumed soaps, deodorant sprays, feminine products, etc.) around your genitals.

• Take showers rather than baths.

• Urinate as frequently as needed. Do not wait.

• Empty your bladder fully.

• Empty your bladder after sexual intercourse.

• Wear cotton underwear.

• Avoid wearing tight clothing.

• Wipe from front to back when you go to the bathroom.

• Wash gently the area around the vagina and anus.

• Avoid coffee, fruit juice or spicy food if you feel they trigger your cystitis symptoms.
