A sustainable reduction of power costs first requires an analysis of the electrical system’s current

consumption and power flows. This is supported by our SENTRON PAC3200 and SENTRON PAC4200

power monitoring devices. They precisely and reliably detect the power values of electrical feeders

and individual consumers. In addition, they provide important measured values for assessing the

system state and power quality.

Whether in industrial applications or commercial buildings – our SENTRON PAC power monitoring devices can be employed wherever electric power is distributed. They detect various measuring values and comfortably illus-trate them on a graphical LC display. For further process-ing of the measured data, the devices can be very easily integrated in superior automation and power manage-ment systems, for example in our SIMATIC PCS 7 power-rate and SIMATIC WinCC powerrate software packages.

Precise power measuring – matched to your needs

The two power monitoring devices provide accurate knowledge of your systems characteristics with maximum, minimum and average values for voltage, current, power values, frequency, power factor, symmetry and THD.

While the SENTRON PAC3200 detects more than 50 basic values, the SENTRON PAC4200 offers a total of 200 values with further relevant data regarding the power quality. Both devices feature 10 power counters for comprehensive load detection. Their measuring accuracy meets the high requirements found in the power counter standards, thanks to which they are excellently suited for internal accounting. The SENTRON PAC4200 offers a considerably higher measuring accuracy than its smaller brother. Moreover, its on board logging capabilities and individually configurable screen displays provide additional comfort and for ease of evaluation of the data.

Both the PAC3200 and PAC4200 come standard with an Ethernet interface built in making additional hardware unnecessary saving space and money. The devices can be configured via LAN networks and reliably provide measured data via Modbus TCP. Yet, the flexible power monitoring devices offer further alternatives for integrated data transmission:

The SENTRON PAC3200 features one multifunctional digital input and output each and the SENTRON PAC4200 comes with two multifunctional digital inputs and outputs. One of up to six possible functions can be independently assigned to every input and output – according to your individual requirements. This provides you with maximum flexibility and reduces the implementation costs for system adjustments.

Power management par excellence based on tried-and-tested industrial technology: Our power monitoring devices can be easily coupled with the SIMATIC PCS 7 powerrate and SIMATIC WinCC powerrate power management add-ons. Comprehensive measured value detection and processing as well as cost-by-cause allocation support the transparency and control of your power distribution system and costs. The load management functionality represents a further highlight. This feature monitors the power limit agreed with the power supplier and controls the consumption if required.

System integration via block libraries

The optionally available block libraries sup-port the easy integration of the SENTRON PAC devices in the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system and the SIMATIC WinCC SCADA sys-tem. Together with the faceplates, the driver and diagnostics blocks in the control serves as the user interface for operating and moni-toring. This way, all technologically important values and functions of the power monitor-ing devices can be easily displayed and used in the respective target system.

SENTRON PAC3200The basis for reliable and precise measuring

Flexible …

The SENTRON PAC3200 detects more than 50 electrical characteristics such as voltages, currents, ratings, power values, frequency, power factor, symmetry and THD. In addition to the current measured value, the minimum and maximum values are detected for the measuring values (non-return pointer function).

The SENTRON PAC3200 is designed for measuring applications in single- or multi-phase networks – with and without neutral conductor. A particularity of this device is that it supports the direct measuring of phase voltages up to 830 V. The SENTRON PAC3200 can thus be employed in 690 V networks. Furthermore, measuring via potential transformers is possible with the transformation ratio respectively adjustable. The current inputs are dimensioned for measuring on x/1 A or x/5 A current transformers.

The SENTRON PAC3200 detects the values for active, reactive and apparent energy – both for high and low tariff. It measures ratings and power values via the four quadrants, i.e. power import and export are measured separately. The SENTRON PAC3200 also facilitates the detection of a measuring period’s average values for active and reactive power. These values can be further processed into load curves in a power management system. Typically, 15-minute intervals are used for this purpose.

… and precise measuring

The measuring accuracy are 0.5 % for active energy and power and to 0.3 % for voltages and 0.2 % for currents.

The device allows for the monitoring of up to six parameters for an upper or lower limit value. The six limit values can be interlinked via the integrated logic function.

The SENTRON PAC3200 is equipped with one multifunctional digital input and output as a standard. The output can be used as pulse or switching output or for limit value signaling. The input can, for example, be used for switchover between high and low tariff detection or for the pulse counting of power counters with S0 interface.

SENTRON PAC4200Comprehensive and comfortable overview of the system state

You require detailed knowledge of your sys-tem’s state? Then the SENTRON PAC4200 is the right solution for you. It detects approximately 200 electrical charac-teristics. In addition to over 50 basic values, which are also provided by the SENTRON PAC3200, you can thus also generate measured data for assessment of the power quality. Besides the THD for three- and four-conductor networks, the PAC4200 also detects uneven harmonics from the 3rd to the 31st for voltage and current, the distortion current strength (Id), the phase angle and the asymmetry for voltage and current with reference to the amplitude and phase. This facilitates early counter-measures against interfer-ences, e.g. caused by mains pollution.

Maximum precision and safety

The PAC4200 sets new precision standards in its device class. With an accuracy of 0.2 % for voltages, currents, active power and energy, referred to the measured value in accordance with IEC 61557-12, this device is not only highly precise,

but also complies with the latest stand-ards. This guarantees the power monitoring device’s suitability regarding the require-ments of modern industrial systems in terms of performance, safety and operat-ing behavior.

Comprehensive storage functions

The SENTRON PAC4200 stores load curves in its internal memory. Apparent, active and reactive power average values are stored over a period of 40 days with a 15-minute measuring period. These data form the basis for an accurate determina-tion and optimization of your system’s utilization for reduced power costs and improved system efficiency.The PAC4200 supports the recording of more than 4000 operating and system events, which can be individually adjusted. With an integrated real-time clock, all events can be traced accurate to the second. This saves valuable trouble-shooting time in case of faults.

User-defined screen displays

A total of four individually configurable screen displays offers further comfort. You can have the values displayed as bar chart or have them compiled as digital indica-tion to gain a rapid overview of your sys-tem’s state directly on the device.

Integrated gateway function

The integrated gateway function of the SENTRON PAC4200 allows for the conven-ient integration of devices with simple serial RS485 interface in an Ethernet net-work. This way, several subordinate de-vices, e.g. simple measuring devices or circuit breakers, can send their data to the SENTRON PAC4200 via Modbus RTU. The SENTRON PAC4200 for example forwards this data to a supervising power management system via its integrated 10/100 MBit/sec Ethernet interface.
