Man’s best friend should not be neglected

this festive season.

Our beloved pets f ill our days with

unconditional companionship, humour and

love. In return they need so little.

They need our protection, a healthy diet,

regular exercise, affection and the

occasional veterinary care.

When so many of us are looking forward

to a funf illed festive season, pets are

petrified of the possibility of neglect that

lay ahead for so many of them.

Responsible owners will ensure that their

pets are safe and attended to by someone

during the holiday.

Fresh food and water must be available at

all times and and the animals must have

shelter against the elements. Fireworks is

a huge concern and can lead to dogs and

cats getting strayed. If reliable family or

friends are not available to take care of

your pets, arrangements can be made with

and neglected animals are problematic for

the SPCA due to lack of blankets and food.

The first Sunday of Advent has come and

gone and Christmas is upon us. Three

more Advent Sundays (at the time of

writing) and then we have our Christmas

services.

In keeping my ear to the ground I find the

comments that people are making to be

very interesting. Some get Christmas all

right and others get Christmas all wrong.

How do YOU get Christmas – do you get

it right or wrong? Is your Christmas a time

of celebration or a time of party? Is your

Christmas a time of blessing or a time of

curse?

Christmas is a time of CELEBRATION. It

is a time where we come together and

celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus. This

is a time that is all about Jesus and not all

about us as individuals. All too many folk

see Christmas to be a time of party all

about having fun for themselves and not

even thinking of Jesus. So here is my

challenge. If Jesus was alive in human

form – would you take Him as your friend

to your time of “celebration” over the

Christmas period?

Maybe many of us feel that I am not being

fair by asking this question but I would

like to suggest that this is the question that

all of us should be asking. This is the

season that we remember Jesus.

This is NOT a time of seeing how much

fun we can have at some or other party

without even giving a thought to whose

birthday we are celebrating. Does this

mean that we cannot have fun – not at all?

Have fun with Jesus at your side – after

all it is His birthday.

Let us look at Christmas from the

“commercial” angle. Is Christmas a time

of blessing or a time of curse? You see if

we forget what Christmas is all about we

end up buying those fantastic big and

expensive gifts for our spouse and family.

It becomes all about what present we are

giving and getting. The net result of this

process is that many people “over-

extend” at this time and end up running

Celebration or party,blessing or curse

up debt that cannot really be afforded.

This then becomes a curse in our life as

we struggle to keep our head above water

for the first three to six months of the year.

This in my mind is not how Jesus would

have wanted us to celebrate His birthday.

On the other hand we can buy a smaller

gift that we can afford and as we share this

gift we can share the love of Jesus and

remember what He did for us.

We can then buy another smaller gift and

give it to the person who we see sleeping

under the bush or behind the shops or

maybe for that struggling family in our

child’s class. Now this will end up as a

blessing that you have probably never

experienced before. This, I believe, is what

Jesus would have done.

So what is your Christmas going to be?

A celebration and blessing….or a party

and curse.

Ons weet niewat om te doen om dankie te sê nie”, uit die hart van ‘n kind.Die Rotary Ann’s van Nigel het vanjaar hul 22ste kersfunksieaangebied.Tydens die geleentheid is daar aan 186 minderbevoorregtekinders elk ‘n geskenk oorhandig. Die jeug van GraceBedieninge in Nigel het aan al die kinders tussen 12 en 13 jaaroud elk ‘n bybel geskenk. ‘n Christelike opvoering om die duurprys te illustreer wat Jesus vir ons betaal het is tentoongestel.Elize Goddess van die Methodiste Gemeente het met skriflesingen gebed geopen. Die kern van vandag se boodskap was dat Godelkeen van ons na Sy beeld geskape het. Omdat ons God se

kosbaarste besittings is, het Hy Sy seun vir ons gegee om aan diekruis te sterf, sodat ons die ewige lewe as geskenk kan ontvang.

Phillip en Betsie van Rhyn is getroud in 1996 en was woonagtig

op die plaas “2 Seisoene” distrik Potchefstroom vanwaar hulle

die “2 Seisoene Bedieninge” bedryf het.

Hulle is albei afgetrede leeraars en besit onderskeidelik grade in

Christelike berading en teologie.

Hulle vorm ook deel van die internasionale “Kingdom Vision

Ministries Network” en bedien in Heidelberg onder die naam

Simfonèa gemeente wat beteken een van gees en harmonie.

Op versoek van die Elimgroep aanvaar hulle die uitdaging om ‘n

gemeente in Heidelberg op die been te bring en die eerste diens

is gehou op 3 Augustus 2014.

Tans is die ledetal omenby dertig.

Simfonèa is toegespits op nie-dogmatiese woordbediening asook

die bevordering van Christelike samesyn, musiek en sang. Hulle

tree al vir die afgelope 15 jaar by verskeie konferensies en

gemeentes op.

Betsie het ‘n passie vir die musiek bediening en bekende

musikante en sangers het al saam met haar opgetree. Sy is steeds

op soek na meelewende kunstenaars om te kom help. Betsie is

ook ‘n Christelike berader.

Phillip is die leeraar en herder van die gemeente. Sy ideal en

visie is om saam met Betsie ‘n geestelike tuiste te bied vir mense.

Hulle reik graag uit na mense wat emosionele bystand benodig.

Hul visie is om mense in nood by te staan met raad en

ondersteuning.

“Dream” is defined as an aspiration

concerning your future. God has great

dreams for us.

He has awesome plans for us and He wants

to do super abundantly above that which

we can ask or imagine.

It is time to put aside our own agendas and

get connected to the dream of God for our

lives. It is time to allow God to take us to

that higher level, where His dream

consumes our whole being.

God is a rewarder of those who diligently

seek him. Seeking Him will help us get to

know the purpose of God for our lives. We

need to trust God completely for every

aspect of our lives.

Proverbs 11:28 “A God shaped life is a

flourishing dream.Trust in your wealth, and

you will be a failure, but God’s people will

prosper like healthy plants.”

The question then is, do we trust God? Do

we trust what God values or what the world

values?

God values people. We should also value

people and their salvation above all else

the world values.

God does not value a soul according to race,

colour, language, education or money.

Jesus came and gave His life for all people.

He died for one and all. He anoints and

favours those who have a heart for others.

Luke 4:18 “The Lord’s spirit has come to

me, because he has chosen me to tell the

good news to the poor.

The Lord has sent me to announce freedom

for prisoners, to give sight to the blind, to

free everyone who suffers, and to say, this

is the year the Lord has chosen”.

When we touch people, we operate where

the anointing is. Preaching the gospel to

the poor, healing the broken-hearted,

preaching the word to the oppressed and

proclaiming the year of the Lord is the

heart of God.

This is the year for God to act. How is He

going to act on earth? He will act through

each of us.

Let us therefor put aside our own agenda

and put God’s agenda first.

With the passion He has placed inside our

hearts, let us go and love others.

Connect to the dream of God!


It is the time of year when the shops are

bound to be busier than usual as people

prepare for the holidays.

Clive Humphrey, Managing Director of

ADT Central Region, urges shoppers to be

cautious when they visit malls in the

coming weeks and to keep their wits, and

belongings, about them.

“Try to carry as little as possible in your

handbag or pockets and rather leave

unnecessary bank or store cards and large

amounts of cash at home.

A packed clothing store or supermarket is

the prime hunting-ground for a pick-

pocket or bag-snatcher.

Never leave a handbag, purse or wallet in

a trolley. If you don’t use a bag or do not

take one along, keep your wallet or purse

in the front pocket of your jacket or

trousers,” Humphrey suggests.

Drawing money at an ATM also needs to

be done with care. Humphrey advises the

following:

If you do need to draw money at an ATM,

use a machine in a busy area. Be aware of

anyone standing nearby and don’t accept

help from strangers when entering your

PIN number.

Put your money in your purse or wallet

before you walk away from the ATM, and

If you think someone has followed you

from the machine, walk into the nearest

shop or up to a mall security guard.

Your safety outside the mall is just as

important as it is inside, he adds. “Before

you exit the mall, have your keys ready so

that no time is wasted to get your

purchases and yourself into your car.

This also means that you’ll be able to hold

onto your handbag as you walk. If

someone does try to snatch your handbag,

let it go. Do not resist or fight back,” he

advises.

Finally, if you are using public transport,

Humphrey suggests that you try to

complete your shopping earlier rather than

later.

“It is a good idea to check the transport

timetable ahead of your trip to the shops

so that you don’t have to wait too long at a

bus stop or train station”.

agtergrond vanuit sy ouerhuis kon hy self sy vrou tot aan die

einde mooi versorg het. Jy sal altyd iets in oom Koos se yskas

kry waarvoor jy nie wil nee sê nie.

Koos bak koekies, beskuit en die kleinkinders is veral erg oor sy

malvapoeding en hoendergereg. Die familie bedank Phillip en

Theresa, ook inwoners van die oord wat hom getrou bystaan.

Oom Koos se familie het op Saterdag 6 Desember saam met

hom sy 90e verjaarsdag gevier by die Dros.

waartydens hul lekker kon skoffel.

Die bestuur en inwoners bedank al die Rekord lesers wat donasies

en bydraes aan die tehuis gemaak het. Daar is 45 inwoners van

die tehuis wat hierdie feestyd tuis bly en dus nie weggaan of

November 29, 2014. This event is a result of a partnership between the Department

of Social Development, Nigel and Alrapark Sports Development Association. It is

intended to encourage young people to partake in sports instead of staying idle.

Through participation in sports on continuous basis they are shielded from

involvement in crime and drug abuse. Former sports stars have been invited to

encourage children to live active lifestyles and to stay away from crime and drugs.

Master Tournament to promote healthy

lifestyle and also to give back to the

community.

The prizes are R15000 in cash (to be

divided between eight teams) and a soccer

kits that will be handed out to the winning

team and the runner up team. Eight teams

will participate in this tournament over the

course of three weeks. The first event took

place on Saturday December 6 at Duduza.

Finals will be played on December 16.

Teams that will compete will be Zamani FC

vs Dragons FC, Lesedi FC vs Workers FC,

K1 Teachers vs Rondebult United and Kasi

FM FC vs Phomola XI.
