Chapter 1 – Tournament structure
Article 1. Tournament format The tournament uses the following format:
Step 1: Group stage – 4 groups of 4 participants, two first from each group are qualified for the next step Step 2: Playoff – 8 participants, single elimination bracket.
Article 2. Group stage For step 1 the structure is a group stage. In each group, participants meet each other in a single-‐game match (see Article 4). Each match result awards points as follows: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a defeat. At the end of the group, the following criteria apply orderly to determine the distinct position of each participant:
1) Highest number of points obtained in all the group matches; 2) Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the remaining tie participants; 3) Higher round difference obtained in the match played among the remaining tied participants; 4) Higher round difference obtained in the group matches played among the remaining tied participants; 5) Higher round difference obtained in all the group matches played; 6) Higher number of points obtained in tie-‐breaker matches played among the remaining tied participants (tie-‐breaker matches are organized specifically for this occasion); 7) Higher score difference obtained in the tie-‐breaker matches; 8) Step 3 and 4 are applied again until no participants are tied anymore.
The first two participants in each group qualify for the next step of the tournament. Tie-‐breaker matches may be skipped if the distinction of participants does not imply any further involvement of the participants in the competition (i.e. if they are both eliminated, they may remain tied in the group stage).
Article 3. Playoff For step 2 the structure is made of a single elimination bracket of 8 participants. In each match, participants play each other’s in a best-‐of-‐three match (see Article 5). The winner of a match advances to the next round of the bracket. There will not be played a match to determine the 3rd and 4th place.
Article 4. Match formats This chapter describes the different match format which will be used during DreamHack Winter 2012. The format will not be changed during the tournament.

one map in two times of 15 in-‐game rounds. For each half-‐time, teams play alternatively terrorist and counter-‐terrorist, and score one point by winning one in-‐game round. The winner of a game is the first team which scores 16 in-‐game rounds. The winner of a match is the team that has won one game. In a single-‐game match a tie, both teams have 15 in-‐game rounds, is possible. If one team scores 16 in-‐game rounds the match end and the remaining rounds are not to be played.
Best-‐of-‐three match A best-‐of-‐three match is played in two or three games and opposes two teams of five players. A game is played on one map in two half-‐times of 15 in-‐game rounds. For each half-‐time, teams play alternatively terrorist and counter-‐terrorist, and score one point by winning one in-‐game round. If one team scores 16 in-‐game rounds the match ends and the remaining rounds are not to be played. The winner of a match is the team that has won two games. If both teams are tied at the end of a game, overtimes are played until a winner is declared.
