“Serving Together A Risen Savior”

Dear Church Family,

The winds of March have come and gone and many would say April is sure to bring showers. Both of these weather events, wind and showers, can be used for spiritual application as well. Do you long to have the wind of the Holy Spirit blowing in your life? Are you thankful when our Lord sends showers of blessings? The Scripture instructs that when we seek the Lord, we will find Him. The Holy Spirit is our Com-forter and is always at work. I am encouraged by the following Scriptures: Acts 2:2 and Ephesians 1:3.

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:2

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3

The Spirit of the living God is here and I praise the name of Jesus for the many ways He blesses. I long to see the day as the Holy Spirit blows in such a way at Central that He fills the place where we are sitting. When this takes place, there will be no man-made explanation, but instead, all glory and honor will be given only to our King, Jesus Christ. Join me in praying for the blessing of a fresh gust of wind from His Holy Spirit!

As I close, I want to say, “Thank You,” to Wanda White for her many years of faithful service to our Lord through Central Baptist Church. I have known Wanda and Bobby White since the summer of 1987. As Wanda retires from her position at Central, it is with an attitude of gratitude that I pray the very best for her. Yes, we will still have times of fellowship and worship with her at Central, but the office will be a much different place without her here every day. I shall always remember her unique way of answering the phone, but above that, I will remember her desire to give her very best as she did all of her work “as unto the Lord.” May God bless you Wanda, and always give you the desires of your heart!

In Him,

Bro. Bryan

I typed these words with a mixed bag of emotions. Wanda White, our beloved ministerial assistant, is officially retired. She has faithfully served Christ through Central Baptist Church for the past twenty-seven years. Words cannot express my love (and our love) for Wanda and Bobby. If you have not been around the church ministerial and administrative staff, you would be amazed at how much fun we have. As we work we laugh together, fellowship together, plan together, and pray together; we truly are family. So, to see Wanda retire is taking away a part of our family. I am sad to see Wanda retire!

Not only is Wanda part of the staff family, but she is also part of the staff team. I will miss seeing Wanda’s smiling face each day. I will miss her fantastic work ethic. Wanda works diligently and without complaining. I am amazed at how much work she can accomplish. Anytime something needs to be done, Wanda is always willing to help out. Wanda is much more than an administrative assistant, Wanda is a team player who is always willing to go the extra mile and “fill in the gap” for other staff members. Again, I am sad to see Wanda retire!

Even though I am saddened at Wanda’s retirement, I realize that this sadness is selfish on my part. Life continues to change. If you don’t believe me, come to my office and look at the picture taken of Tonya, Abigail and me when we first were coming to Central to be your pastor. We have changed! That Wanda is now entering a new phase in her life must be a time of rejoicing for us all. After many years of work for pay, she and Bobby are going to be able to enjoy some special time together. Even though she will remain busy, for the most part she will be able to dictate her daily schedule. I must admit, I am happy for Wanda!

I am happy for Wanda because I know that God is not through with her. She has served her Lord well throughout her life, and she will continue serving Him throughout eternity. Although she has retired from a paid position at Central, she has not retired from Central Baptist Church. In fact, I am anxious to see what plans God has for Bobby and Wanda. After all, His plans are always to give us hope and a future. Because Christ has new and exciting things ahead for Wanda, things that she would not have the time to do if she maintained her paid position, I am happy for Wanda!

You probably also see Wanda’s retirement as a mixed bag of emotions. One emotion that I ask you to display to Wanda is one of loving appreciation for twenty-seven years of sacrificial service at Central Baptist Church. Please come and show your love to Wanda and Bobby at a reception in their honor on Sunday, April 21, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. (in the Manna Hall). Thank you, Wanda, for giving to the Lord!

Be Blessed!

Hello Everyone!

Don’t we serve an amazing God! His blessings are endless! I think he truly outdid Himself when He gave us the gift of April! The weather is warm, the flowers are blooming, and most calendars actually have some blank squares! Enjoy the break…May is coming with its multitude of activities! Revel in God’s creation; plan a family picnic, or hike in the woods or maybe attempt a family fishing morning!. April is also a wonderful time to carry out a family mission project. The possibilities are endless and all are appreciated by the recipients and valued by our Lord! You may even want to join me in a Blessing Hunt! I intend to watch for and record a blessing on every single square of my April calendar. They are there in abundance…I just need to recognize and rejoice in them!

KIDZTOWN HAPPENINGS

Old Testament Adventure

In April the children will be encouraged to learn the books of the Old Testa-ment. I know that this is challenging but I also know that we have the best kids in the whole wide world and they can do it! Many Sunday School classes work on this throughout the year. We will have a Celebration Extravaganza on April 28 during the 10:30 Connect Service and all children who have mastered and

shared the Books of the Old Testament with an adult in KidzTown are invited to attend! This is normally our Family Worship Sunday.

World Wide Tour of Coasters

VBS is coming up fast and promises to be the most exciting one we have encountered in a long time! The children will enjoy the thrill of theme parks, the excitement of Jeff Slaughter’s unique music and most importantly gain a deeper understanding of God’s incredible love for them! So… mark your calendars and make plans to be here every single day! The World Tour kicks off Monday, June 3, and continues through Friday, June 7! Adults, we still have several opportunities of service! So either go to our website (cbckids.org) or contact me for more information. I can promise you that you will be truly blessed!

Watch for updates and added events. But most importantly…enjoy the wonderful family that God chose just for you!

Blessings Abound!

The STARS potluck luncheon on Friday, March 8, was well attended. Ruby Newby’s timely devotion was a poem she had written some years ago about the Easter story. Travis Payne, a CBC member, presented a very interesting program and display of sea shells he has been collecting since he was a teenager.

Our next Luncheon is Friday April 12, at 11:30 a.m. and you are going to love the program. Our special guest will be Mrs. Dana Starnes, secretary in the RAM Office at Central. Dana is a classical guitarist who, in addition to playing her beautiful music, will share how she became associated with RAM and how she became the musician she is today. If you read this near the first of April you will still have time to sign up for the April 12 luncheon. Sign-up sheets are posted on the STARS Bulletin Board in the hallway near the worship center on Sundays and by the escalator on Wednesdays a week or two prior to the luncheon date. This year our May Luncheon will be on the second Friday, May 10, not on the first Sunday in May as we have done in the previous years. This decision was made by the STARS Council and confirmed at the March Luncheon.

Have you signed up with Wanda White’s office for the Friday, April 5, trip to Samford University in Birmingham for the Alabama Historical Commission tour?

A trip to Calloway Gardens on June 20-21, an overnight event with Dan’s Tours, promises to be one of the best events we will have this year. If you plan to go on this trip we need you to make your reservation now. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don’t put this off making reservations any longer! We don’t want to cancel this early summer trip.

Acts 3 Man Show – Saturday April 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $8.00 in the CBC library… don’t miss this powerful event as the book of Acts comes to life on stage!

CBC Ministry Fair - Sunday April 21

The CBC Ministry Fair is a showcase of all the ministries and service teams at Central Baptist. What a great day to get more information on how you can plug in to our music ministry! Each of us have special gifts and talents that need to be used for the glory of God. Stop by our table to see how you can use those gifts and talents in our music ministry at CBC!

“Incredibly profound. The finest New Testament Drama I have ever seen.” - Clayton Erb, Grace Community Church, Los Angeles

Acts the 3-man Show is a bold unflinching, action-packed and moving drama that highlights the truth of the Word of God. Come along with us and experience the excitement and emotion as we bring to life the monumental events of the early church. Join us Saturday, April 6, at Central Baptist Church for a truly amazing experience. Tickets are $8.00 & can be picked up in the church library.
