Regular Rhinoplasty VS Asian Rhinoplasty

A poor understanding of the Asian nasal anatomy could also result to an overly large bridge.

This would look perfect on a Caucasian face, but it would appear out of place if done on Asian

features.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is requested by most patients as it remains to be among the top five cosmetic surgeries. Millions of rhinoplasty procedures have been performed on clients of different races every year. However, this surgery is not a one size fits all procedure. A surgeon has to fashion them accordingly to make it appropriate for the patient’s ethnicity and facial structure. Since Asians also constitute a major part of the market, this gave rise to what is called the Asian rhinoplasty.

In order for a nose job to fit on a certain patient

perfectly, a good surgeon would know what and

what doesn’t work on Asian facial contours.

One of the factors that set regular rhinoplasty

from Asian rhinoplasty is the tip projection that a

patient has. An experienced surgeon would know

that Asians typically have weaker cartilage on the

tip area. A traditional procedure would not be

applicable on this type of nose because removing

a tissue on the tip area in an attempt to sharpen

and narrow it will not create the right shape,

usually resulting to a pinched appearance.

The surgical beauty industry has also been sensitive to the unique

Asian anatomy.

So, instead of removing, the surgeon

would add some cartilage to either side of

the nose to reinforce an upward

projection; similar to how you would prop

up a tent.

Another common process included in

Caucasian rhinoplasty is the necessity to

break the nasal bones in order to

reconstruct it again to the desired shape

and projection, and also to reduce the

nose size. However this may not be

necessary in Asian rhinoplasty since the

placement of the implants to lengthen the

nose already has a narrowing effect.

Breaking some bones would only lessen

the diameter of the airway which could

cause blockage.

A poor understanding of the Asian nasal

anatomy could also result to an overly

large bridge. This would look perfect on a

Caucasian face, but it would appear out of

place if done on Asian features.

The nasal bridge in an Asian rhinoplasty should start pretty much at the level of the eyelashes or a few millimeters lower.

This means that there should be a slight break between the forehead and the point where the nose starts to protrude. A surgeon who fails to see this detail would end up giving an Asian patient a Greek nose.

Another procedure under the umbrella of nose surgery is nostril narrowing. This should also be properly fashioned by the surgeon because this does not necessarily fit well on patients of Asian origin.

This would be less applicable for Northern Asians, however narrowing the nostril to a certain degree would perfectly fit on patients with Southern Asian origins.

Doing this even if the situation does not

call for it only subjects the patient to

added invasiveness and a higher risk of

infection.

Also proper nasal narrowing in Asians

should be done while also taking the

outside curvature of the nose into

consideration. Otherwise, this would

result to a nose that appears like it has

been pasted on.

5 Reasons Why Women Get Rhinoplasty Revisions

Rhinoplasty remains to be among the

top 5 cosmetic procedures requested by

women in 2011 along with likes of

breast augmentation and tummy tucks.

Successful results are able to provide

women with enhanced nose that are

more appropriate for their faces, and

boost in their self-confidence as well.

However there are unfortunate cases

where women come in to get revision

rhinoplasty done.

Revision rhinoplasty, also known as

secondary rhinoplasty, is a special

branch of nose surgery that is aimed at

correcting poor and untoward results.

This is considered to be a rather difficult

procedure requiring more skill and

expertise from a surgeon which is why it

is also more expensive.

There are different reasons why women come in to get rhinoplasty revisions done.

Five common reasons why women get

rhinoplasty revisions..,

1. Botched Primary Rhinoplasty Results

In unfortunate cases, some women

end up trusting their noses to poorly

competent surgeons. This leads to

botched results such as a pinched

look, a hooked nose, a hanging

columella, scooped or severely

angled.

Poor judgment leads to poor results

which could end up giving the nose a

more awkward appearance than it

had before surgery. The over-

operated look is something that

women complain about because they

don’t want the world to know that

they had something done. These

women want to go for the subtle

results that also create significant

improvements.

2. Complications

Rhinoplasty consists of a number of

complications, from the bleeding,

infections to more severe cases such

as skin necrosis. A secondary surgery

would be necessary in order to

correct the affected nasal structures,

to stop the progression of a recurrent

problem that stem from the surgery.

If not attended to promptly this could

lead to more serious complications

which could lead to permanent

disfigurement of the nose.

3. Asymmetry

Asymmetry is one of the common

problems that drive women to get a

revision done. There are times when

a surgeon fails to fashion the nose

more appropriately that it becomes

balanced on both sides.

This could result to imbalanced nostrils

or a crooked nose. However most

surgeons would suggest to wait for a

couple of months to a year before

getting anything done yet again because

this could very well be just post-surgical

swelling.

4. Complaints over functionality

(e.g. breathing problems)

One of the common complaints that

women have after rhinoplasty are issues

in breathing due to structural problems.

There are various factors causing this

but primarily this is a result of 2 major

causes which is unrecognized pre-

existing nasal conditions and over

resection of nasal cartilages leading to a

decrease in the diameter of the nasal

valve area. Women also have revision for

this reason because structural problems

also resulted to them snoring in their

sleep.

5. Dissatisfaction with earlier results

Some women also become simply

dissatisfied with the results even though

there is really nothing wrong with it

overall. Those who have body

dysmorphic disorder would have these

concerns usually resulting to them

coming back for multiple rhinoplasty

revisions.
