Even though many people have already put away their Christmas
trees and decorations, we Catholics continue the Christmas Season
for a long time as we continue to reflect upon the significance of
the Son of God becoming human. First came the “Octave of the
Nativity”—which lasts from Christmas till the Feast of Mary the
Mother of God on January 1, today. Then the popular secular song,
“On the Twelfth Day of Christmas” really refers to the Church’s
ancient celebration of the twelve days of Christmas which runs from
Christmas Day till January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany—count them!
However, in recent times the Church transfers the Epiphany to the
nearest Sunday, and this year it will be January 8. But, wait—we
aren’t through celebrating. In fact, Christmas season lasts till
January 9, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The reason is that
those events of the Christmas Season are all “epiphanies” or
manifestations of the Divinity shining through—the birth of Jesus,
his manifestation to the Magi, and his baptism when the Father
says, “This is my Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” So, just
keep celebrating even if the world isn’t!
This Thursday and Friday many children in Faith Formation will
be making their First Reconciliations in English in the Church at
6:00 pm. So, on Thursday our regular Confessions in the Chapel at
6:00 pm will be cancelled. However, adults may take advantage of
the Sacrament of Reconciliation but only after all the children
have received the sacrament. On Friday, we will be cancelling the
6:30 pm Spanish Mass.
In 1998 the massive Hurricane Mitch hit Honduras, killed around
20,000 people, devastated the infrastructure of roads and bridges
of an already very poor country, and displaced millions of people.
Ever since then, our Diocese of Dallas has sponsored the Diocese of
Trujillo, sent hundreds of people of our diocese to help with
visitation, medical help, but mostly friendship to show them that
we care about them. Each January we sponsor a special collection
for the people of that Diocese of Trujillo; it helps fund their
very poor parishes and missions. We here in Frisco were once a
mission 50 years ago, and other parishes helped us; may we carry on
the tradition and help our fellow Catholics of Honduras.
The Church Office and Parish Center will be closed Monday,
January 2. We will celebrate the 8:30 am Mass but not the 6:30 pm
Mass.
A pesar de que muchas personas ya han guardado sus árboles de
Navidad y decoraciones navideñas, nosotros los católicos
continuamos la temporada de Navidad por más tiempo mientras
continuamos reflexionando sobre la importancia de que el Hijo de
Dios se haya hecho humano. Primero vino la “Octava de Navidad”, que
va desde Navidad hasta la Fiesta de María, Madre de Dios, que se
celebra hoy, 1° de enero. Después, hay los doce días de la Navidad
que inician el día de Navidad y terminan el 6 de enero donde
celebramos la fiesta de la Epifanía- ¡cuenta los días, son 12! Sin
embargo, desde tiempo reciente la Iglesia transfiere la Epifanía al
domingo más cercano, y este año se celebrará el 8 de enero. Pero
espera, no hemos terminado de celebrar. De hecho, la temporada
navideña dura hasta el 9 de enero, la Fiesta del Bautismo del
Señor. La razón es que estos eventos de la temporada navideña son
todos “epifanías” o manifestaciones a través de las que se muestra
la Divinidad - el nacimiento de Jesús, su manifestación a los Reyes
Magos y su bautismo cuando el Padre dice: “ Este es mi Hijo amado,
en quien me complazco” Así que, ¡sigan celebrando incluso si el
mundo no lo hace!
Este jueves y viernes nuestros alumnos de segundo año de
preparación para la Comunión en inglés estarán haciendo su Primera
Reconciliación en la Iglesia a las 6:00 pm. Así que, el jueves las
Confesiones regulares de las 6:00 pm en la Capilla serán
canceladas. Sin embargo, los adultos pueden aprovechar el
Sacramento de la Reconciliación, pero sólo después de que todos los
niños han recibido el sacramento. El viernes también cancelaremos
la Misa de 6:30 pm.
En 1998, el huracán Mitch golpeó a Honduras donde mató a unas
20,000 personas, devastó la infraestructura de caminos y puentes de
un país ya muy pobre y desplazó a millones de personas. Desde
entonces, nuestra Diócesis de Dallas ha patrocinado a la Diócesis
de Trujillo; ha enviado a cientos de personas de nuestra Diócesis
para ayudar con las visitas, la ayuda médica, pero sobre todo les
ha ofrecido su amistad para demostrarles que nos preocupamos por
ellos. Cada enero tenemos una colecta especial para las personas de
la Diócesis de Trujillo; Ésta ayuda a financiar sus parroquias y
misiones que son muy pobres. Nosotros aquí en Frisco fuimos una vez
una misión hace 50 años y otras parroquias nos ayudaron;
Continuemos la tradición y ayudar a nuestros compañeros católicos
de Honduras.
La oficina de la Iglesia y el Centro Parroquial estarán cerrados
el lunes 2 de enero. Celebraremos la Misa de las 8:30 am, pero no
la Misa de las 6:30 pm.

Creating a Safer EnvironmentJanuary 5th at 7:00 pm in the Great
Hall The women of St. Francis have invited Dixie Hairston to speak
to our parishioners in an effort to help strengthen community
awareness on Human Trafficking in North Texas. Dixie Hairston is
with Children at Risk Dallas. They are the lead organization in
providing support to our young children in foster homes who are
affected by sex trafficking. She is an expert in human trafficking
and will share Valuable formation regarding how this is affecting
our communities. Learn what we can do to CEASE this network in
order to provide a safer community for the most vulnerable adult
women. Help us build Awareness!!!! Anyone who attends this meeting
would receive credit for safe environment training. If you are

Knights of Columbus 12480 and Columbian Squires 5450 Free Throw
Championship All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 from St. Francis are
invited to participate in the local level of competition for the
2017 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. This local
competition will be held on January 22nd following the 8:00 am ,
9:45 am and 11:30 am Masses in the Great Hall. The Knights of
Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with
winners progressing through local, district, and state
competitions. International champions are announced by the KofC
international headquarters based on scores from the state-level
competitions. All boys and girls 9 to 14 years old are eligible to
participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. All
contestants on the local level are recognized for their
participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish
proof of age. An entry form will need to be filled out by a parent
or guardian prior to participation. For additional information

is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization
with over 1.8 million members in 15,000 local councils. The
Columbian Squires is an international fraternity of approximately

Francis, Church councils, communities, culture of life, families
and youth.

As you begin year end tax planning for your family or business,
don’t forget that donations to St. Francis qualify as a tax
deductible charitable contribution.
Most parishioners give a cash gift, but a gift of stocks or
bonds is another way to benefit St. Francis and gain a tax
advantage. All cash or other asset contributions must be received
or
postmarked by December 31 to receive contribution credit for
2016. Any gift received or postmarked on or after January 1 will be
credited to 2017.
Al terminar el año y al iniciar con la planificación de la
declaración de impuestos (Tax Income) para su familia o negocio, no
olvide que las donaciones a San Francisco califican como una
contribución caritativa deducible de impuestos. La mayoría de los
feligreses dan donaciones en efectivo, pero el donar acciones o
bonos es otra manera de beneficiar a San Francisco y obtener una
ventaja fiscal. Todas las donaciones en efectivo o donaciones de
activos deben ser recibidas o selladas por correo antes del 31 de
diciembre para que puedan contar como donaciones del año 2016.
Cualquier donación recibida o sellada a partir del 1 de enero
será
acreditada a sus donaciones del 2017.
