The Institution

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women (Deemed-to-be-University under Category 'A' by MHRD, estd. u/s 3 of UGC Act 1956) was established as an aided college by the great patriot and educationalist Padma Bhushan Dr.T.S.Avinashilingam under the auspices of the Avinashilingam Education Trust in 1957. The growth of the Institution has been carefully nurtured to its current heights by the world renowned educationalist and nutritionist, the former Chancellor of the University, Dr.Rajammal P.Devadas. It is now the largest Institution in the country for imparting quality education to women at all levels. The Institution follows the educational ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Saradamani Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi and upholds a life of purity, discipline and service.

The Institute provides academic exibility under seven schools, namely, Home Science, Physical Sciences & Computational Sciences, Biosciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Commerce and Management, Education and Engineering.

The Department

The Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, a well equipped department thcontributing to teaching and research is celebrating its 50 year of inception. The department has been built

up with very strong roots and has grown into a full- edged banyan, bringing Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and all other allied elds under its banner. It works with the vision of inculcating theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the students and training them to take up important and challenging positions in leading educational and research institutions and industries all over the world or become entrepreneurs.

Teaching and research are the major activities of the department. Research on health, disease and pharmaceutics including medicinal plants has long been an integral part of the research programmes of the department. The department also offers Internships and Workshops for both students and staff. The research is well supported by funds from UGC, DST, DBT, ICMR & international and industrial links. The thrust areas of research of the department include medicinal plant, enzyme technology, environmental management and clinical research.

The Conference

Pharmaceutical-based research ndings help to discover and produce effective medicines to treat various diseases that improve the health and well being of patients thus contributing to their quality of life. In the past six decades, there has been a drastic innovation and improvement in medicine and public health interventions which has increased life expectancy. The practice of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention is a gigantic domain interconnected with healthcare, information technology and pharmaceutical sciences and is causing signicant changes in modern drug discovery and development and also steering the path for impending research and innovations.

The International Conference on 2Expanding Horizons in Health, Disease and Pharmaceutics E(H) DP st nd- 2019 21 and 22 February 2019 to be held on is an event which is being organized to commemorate the

Golden Jubilee Celebrations year of the department. This would provide an excellent international platform for academicians, scientists, researchers, pharmacists, industrialists and students to share their research ndings with the global experts and explore the possibility of networking with each other.

Oral and Poster Presentation

Each oral presentation is strictly limited to 10 minutes (including 3 minutes of discussion). The maximum poster size should be 80 cm width and 120 cm height.

Best oral and poster presentations will be honoured with awards.

Kindly email the abstracts to The submitted abstracts will be reviewed by e2hdp2019@gmail.com.the Scientic committee and the authors will be notied about the acceptance by email. Only a very limited number of abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. Abstract not accompanied by Registration form and fees will be rejected.

Proceedings

Full length paper of all presentation (Oral and Poster) will be published as proceedings with ISBN number, against extra payment. Each article should not exceed 5 pages inclusive of gures/ plates. Font and line spacing to be followed as for the abstract. Papers which do not conne to these guidelines will summarily be rejected and the amount refunded. An additional amount of ` 1000 will have to be paid for the publication.

About Coimbatore

Coimbatore (Kovai), the third largest city of Tamil Nadu, also known as 'The Manchester of the South India' is situated on the banks of the river Noyyal and on the foothills of Nilgiris. It is considered to be a major industrial, textile and educational hub of Tamil Nadu. The climate of Coimbatore is pleasant and cool throughout the year since it is surrounded by the Western Ghats. The thick black soil of the region has contributed to Coimbatore's ourishing agriculture industry, especially cotton. Being an industrial city, it is well connected by air, rail and roadways. The city is adorned for its holy shrines at Marudhamalai, Perur, Eachanari and Bannari. For non-stop excitement are amusement parks like Kovai Kondattam, Koavai Kutralam, Maharaja Theme Park and Black Thunder. Some of the places of interest are GD Naidu Museum, Forest College and many more. Shopping malls like Brookelds, Fun Republic and Prozone pep up the city's social outings. More fascinating places to visit are hills stations like Coonoor and Ooty located at around 80 km from Coimbatore. The Adiyogi Shiva and Isha Yoga Centre at the foothills of Vellingiri hills are also places worth visiting.
