Cornelius Chess Club Registration
We are pleased to announce that the Chess Club will be starting on Thursday, October 17th.
The club will meet on EVERY OTHER Thursday, from 7:30am-8:30am in the Media Center.
The Chess Club is open to Kindergarten through 5th
grade students, who enjoy playing chess and/or would like to learn.
We are lucky to have Mr. Singleton joining us again, as our Instructor.
During the Chess Club meetings, students will receive chess instruction and then play a chess game. Students will sometimes use a
chess clock and make chess notations during the game. Students are expected to bring pencils to make notations.
We will have an in-house tournament which will be conducted at the end of the year. Also, we will work with local elementary
schools to play in chess matches throughout the year, as well as host a human chess tournament (kids act as chess pieces). Last,
information about tournament opportunities outside of school will be available throughout the school year.

A nominal fee of $15 will cover the t-shirt and supplies. Please write a check payable to Cornelius
Chess Club.
Students are expected to arrive at 7:30 and be seated and ready for chess instruction which begins promptly at 7:30.
If your child is interested in participating in Chess Club, please complete the section below and return it
by Thursday, October 10th.
