About HSBCnet

The Registration and Navigation Guide is intended for corporate and commercial banking clients.

HSBCnet provides secure, real-time access to an online suite of services covering the Group’s global

markets, cash management, investment banking, trade services, securities, and commercial banking

business lines.

User Registration involves the setting up and entitlement of new users by an HSBCnet System

Administrator based on their (User’s) role and duties in the organisation/company. It includes all the

steps the User needs to complete in providing personal and corporate information, selecting a name and

security credentials.

Using a single, secure log on, registered and authorised HSBCnet customers can access information

and transactional services using a suite of services located on the personal page.

To meet your unique online banking needs, you can personalise your HSBCnet online banking services

according to your individual preferences.

Types of Users

HSBCnet Users can be classified into two categories:

Global Market Users

Transaction Banking Users

Global Market Users are all of the same type while Transaction Banking Users are of the following

three types:

Initial System Administrators (ISA) - These Users are the new customer’s original signatories named

on the application form submitted to HSBC when first subscribing to HSBCnet’s services.

System Administrators (SA) - These Users are new System Administrators subsequently set up by

the Initial System Administrators with entitlements to perform Administrative functions on HSBCnet.

End Users (EU) - These Users are set up with entitlements to perform specific functions depending on

their role in their organisation. They are usually not entitled to perform Administrative functions on

HSBCnet.

Registering with HSBCnet

To register as a User with HSBCnet, you are required to complete some mandatory steps depending on

your User status or the Bank unit your company primarily deals with. The following workflows provide an

overview of the registration process.

User Registration Workflow for Users with Customer ID

This workflow is applicable to new System Administrators and End Users of Transaction Banking

customers.

Your HSBCnet System Administrator sets up, authorises, and administers your HSBCnet account,

including the online banking services that you have access to and your levels of entitlements.

Once your company profile is set up, you will receive a welcome e-mail from your System Administrator.

Use the link provided in the New User Invitation e-mail to register with HSBCnet. If you do not register

using this link your username will not be associated to your company’s customer ID, requiring you to re-

register.

User Registration workflow for Users without Customer ID

This workflow is applicable to Initial System Administrators. If you are an Initial System Administrator,

you do not need a New User Invitation e-mail to register. Select the Register for HSBCnet link in the

drop down window on the HSBCnet home page and complete the registration steps as explained below.

HSBCnet security guidelines

User-level Security guidelines

Basic common sense and adherence to the following security guidelines can help ensure that your

information remains safe and secure.

Keep your password, memorable answer, security answers and PIN secure and secret

at all times

Never write or otherwise record these credentials or reveal them to anyone else

Promptly destroy any PIN advice from the Bank or other parties

Avoid passwords, PIN or memorable question and answer combinations that may be easy

for others to guess

Never record passwords, memorable answer, security answers or Security Device PIN

on any software that can store it automatically (for example, computer screen prompts or

save password features on internet browsers)

Ensure that others are unable to read your screen or that you are not being monitored by

closed circuit TV while logging on to the system

Change your initial PIN upon receipt. Change your password and PIN on a regular basis.

Do not alternate between the same pair of passwords

Never disclose your password, memorable answer or PIN to HSBC staff. Be cautious of

any correspondence or communication requesting the disclosure of your passwords or

any bank account details. Report any suspicious correspondence or communication to

HSBC

Never leave your Security Device unattended. Always keep it securely locked up when

not in use

Never share your authentication device with your colleagues

Customer-level Security guidelines

Another important piece of the security programme involves customer education. Even if a customer

does not want to implement any of our interim controls they should be reminded of the following best

practices:

1. Enhance the security of your computer and networks to protect against malicious software.

Minimize the number of, and restrict the functions for, computer workstations and laptops that are used

for online banking and payments. A workstation used for online banking should not be used for general

web browsing, e-mailing, and social networking. Conduct online banking and payments activity from at

least one dedicated computer that is not used for other online activity.

2. Install and maintain real-time anti-virus and anti-spyware desktop firewall and malware

detection and removal software.

Use these services regularly to scan your computer. Allow for automatic updates and scheduled scans.

Install security updates to operating systems and all applications, as they become

available. These updates may appear as weekly, monthly, or even daily for zero-day

attacks.

Block pop-ups.

Page 16: Registration and Navigation - HSBC · Registration and Navigation Published: September 2017 4 HSBCnet registration follows a sequence of three steps. When completing each step note

Registration and Navigation

Published: September 2017 12

Keep operating systems, browsers, and all other software and hardware up-to-date.

Do not use public Internet access points (e.g., Internet cafes, public Wi-Fi hotspots

(airports), etc.) to access accounts or personal information. If using such an access point,

employ a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

3. Enhance the security of your corporate banking processes and protocols

Initiate payments under dual control using two separate computers. For example: one person authorizes

the creation of the payment file and a second person authorizes the release of the file from a different

computer system.

4. Monitor and reconcile accounts at least once a day

Reviewing accounts regularly enhances the ability to quickly detect unauthorized activity and allows the

business

5. Note any changes in the performance of your computer such as:

A dramatic loss of speed.

Changes in the way things appear.

Computer locks up so the user is unable to perform any functions.

Unexpected rebooting or restarting of your computer.

An unexpected request for a one time password (or token) in the middle of an online

session.

Unusual pop-up messages.

New or unexpected toolbars and/or icons.

Logging on and off HSBCnet

To log on to www.hsbcnet.com, enter your username, and select Log on. Authenticate your security

information as requested to access HSBCnet. For more information on security information

authentication, refer to the User Authentication User Guide.

To log off HSBCnet, select Logoff on the top-right corner of the personal page and then select Confirm.

Depending on which page you are currently viewing, you may need to close that window and navigate
