By fusion of material and technology, we always offer high-performance automotive steel sheets required by the times
In the automotive industry, low fuel consumption and emissions cut are considered important. This places a number of requirements on steel used as structural components; reduced thickness for light weight, heat-resistance for improved combustion and high process-ability for deep or complicated drawing. Nisshin Steel has offered products to meet various needs, such as stainless steel with excellent oxidation and high temperature resistance, high-tensile steel, coated steel with high corrosion resistance, special steel to satisfy both high strength and weight saving. In 1970, we put on the market "ALSTAR" , aluminized steel with corro-sion and heat resistance for mufflers. Furthermore, we have offered stainless steel with higher heat and corrosion resistance as exhaust gas components in order to respond to strengthening of the emission gas regulation. "NSS EM-2/EM-3" and "NSS HR-1", ferritic stainless steel grades with small coefficients of thermal expansion and excel-lent thermal fatigue characteristics are widely used as highly efficient exhaust manifold material which can withstand hot gas of 800℃ to 1,000℃. Moreover, our interactions with automotive customers do not end with mere material supply but continue into support in evaluation of materials and components as well as in processing technologies. For example, our researchers work with our customers on model changes and development of structural materials right from the selec-tion stage. Today, there is an urgent need for promoting next-generation automo-biles powered by such energies as hybrid, electric and bio-energy. Nisshin Steel is committed to contribute to people's safety and con-struction of a future automotive society which protects global environ-ment through developing its own development of new technologies.
Through the development of heat-resistant ferritic stainless steel, we have succeeded in launching a product with excel-lent high temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and processability, which can also withstand engine vibration. This is an instance of technology contributing to lighter automo-biles and cleaner exhaust gas.
Exhaust manifold
Press-formed metal gaskets which can seal high temperatures and high pressures are used for the internal-combustion of automobiles. Nisshin Steel has developed and offers high-strength stainless steel which can maintain springiness under an environment of up to 500℃ in addition to its excellent corrosion resistance and sufficient punch processability.

We continue to pursue high durability, high designability and cost reduction when developing new products for construction and civil engineering uses
We were initially founded as Japan’s first galvanized steel sheet maker in the private sector and have since played a leading role in establishing and developing the steel sheet market for construction. A prime evidence is the popularity of our “Moon Star” galvanized steel sheet which was first produced in 1912 and used for zinc roofs nationwide. In 1965 we developed the epoch-making “Gas Wiping (YG) Process” to attain uniform coating weights and we have subse-quently launched a number of quality coated steel products. They are adopted for diverse large-scale structures including exhibition halls, plants and warehouses in coastal areas where high corrosion resis-tance is required as well as symbolic facilities including museums with superb designs, and our products are highly evaluated as “Moon Star” brand in the industry. (our products marketed under “Moon Star Brand” are highly evalu-ated in the industry.)Besides, for single-family houses, coated steel sheets with durability, earthquake resistance, and fire-safety have attracted attention as new building materials, and are used not only for roofs and walls but also for frames of light-gauge steel and prefabricated structures. Especially, ZAM®, our proprietary product with the durability of 10 times or more of conventional galvanized steel sheet, has found applications in various fields such as sound insulation wall and guardrails of highways, and steel molds. Future building materials are required to have low environmental impact and economic efficiency in addition to durability. Nisshin Steel is committed to developing high value-added business which expands possibilities of architectural designs through introducing energy-saving and environment-friendly products and offering basic designs and component designs supported with structural calcula-tions intended for cost reductions.

Fusion of material development, processing/joining technologies, and production tech-nongies expand new possibilities.
There are two ways to promote research and development. One is the needs research to respond to customers’ requirements, and the other is the seeds research to stimulate market needs. In the needs research which accounts for approximately 70% of Nisshin Steel’ s R&D programs, five departments cooperate with each other to develop materials that comply with customers’ orders, develop processing or joining technologies and offer solutions so as to induce customers to use Nisshin products. Moreover, in the seeds research to develop exotic materials and new technologies that bear our future, each department tackles future-oriented themes, such as alternative energy, saving resources and hybrid through cross-functional setup.
Research and development responding to needs and seeds with collective strengths of five laboratories
Quality, delivery and steady supply. No matter how superior a steel sheet may be, it cannot meet customers’ expectation unless it is produced on a commercial basis. Because each laboratory is located within the premises of the related steel works, production experiments may be conducted smoothly from laboratory experiment through pilot run in a works, improvement or development of production processes may be promoted through realistic technical innovation. Moreover, the team which mainly conducts process research in ironmaking and steelmaking furthers technologies for use of raw materials and technical development to meet needs for high quality, and utilizes them for operation and product technologies.
Production development is the key to commercialization for a producer
