Every little helps

Tesco Tenterden has always been a staunch supporter of the Hall by donating raffle prizes and sponsoring our Bingo events. In February we were fortunate to receive a cheque for £200 from the store community fund. Four other worthy causes were also presented with the same amount including local charity Hypo Hounds.

This resulted in an amount of £520 which he generously presented to the hall. The Trustees would like to express their thanks to Del and his customers who bought tickets for this donation towards “Hall Aid” refurbishment and of course, congratulations go to the lucky winner.

To mark the occasion a special tea was hosted in the Hall by the Trustees and a commemorative plaque unveiled by the then Mayor of Tenterden Cllr. Justin Nelson pictured opposite. What a great job Andy Gill Building Services Ltd did last August in replacing our old asbestos roof with modern tiles, as well as new soffits, fascias and downpipes. This was quickly followed by the installation of LED lighting for the ceiling and stage plus repainting of the ceiling panels

A new extended kitchen complete will all mod/cons is next on the agenda and to help fund this we continue to tirelessly fundraise by holding various events including quizzes, bingo sessions, boot fairs and cream teas.

The roof has been replaced and the lights are on.

Now for the kitchen. We have also applied to Tenterden Town Council’s Community Chest scheme for a grant and will likewise be approaching Ashford Borough Council and Kent County Council later in the year. We’re hopeful that subject to funding, work could commence on this in 2019.

A typical, modern village hall kitchen.

Since they moved their web development and communications agency into the old butcher’s shop in St Michaels just before Christmas, Tim Green and Rosalind Dewar have been enjoying all the benefits of being part of the small, friendly community of St. Michaels. The development project at The Butchery, which took several months, involved transforming traditional retail premises into smart new offices while retaining some of the best-loved features of the old butcher’s shop. Tim Green says: “We love working in St. Michaels where everyone is so welcoming and friendly. We’ve attracted quite a few new local clients simply through our high visibility at the heart of the community.” Recent clients include D C Groves & Son, Little Silver Country Hotel and Snow Dogs Discover Ashford. Another project on the Dewar Green job list is a new website for St. Michaels Village Hall when the team will be working with Ken Mulholland to create an online presence for the hall including information about the

venue’s great facilities, a photo gallery and booking instructions. Due for completion over the next few months, the address for the new site as soon as it’s finished will be

St. Michaels W.I. meet in the village hall on the third Monday in the month at 7.30pm. All visitors and new members are met with a warm welcome. The W.I. was very involved in the fundraising towards the village hall build on its present site and has a long standing relationship as it continues to support the hall, running refreshment stalls at events and holding afternoon teas. Just last year, during the roof refurbishment they held a cream tea which was extremely popular with the ‘scaffolding team’ as well as local people. They were fortunate to have Ken Boarer playing the keyboard, which gave a typically ‘English Afternoon Tea‘ feel to the occasion. Sunday July 29th, a date for your diary for this year’s cream tea.
