Financial Leadership and ManagementThursday, January 29, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.Today’s pastor faces a myriad of financial challenges, including but not limited to the daily management of finances, stewardship views of the different generations and the ability to tie vision to the giving and spending of resources. In this session we will discuss all of the above as well as explore the key factors in developing an intentional and strategic plan for creating a culture of generosity and financial literacy and risk and resource management. We will apply practical strategies for budgeting, giving and talking about money. We will look at church finances as it relates to building projects, compassion and capital campaigns.

Faculty Facilitator: Scott VaudreyIn one capacity or another, Scott has been guiding others toward better living throughout his career. From his years as an attending physician in the Emergency Department of a major medical/trauma center to his role today as Director of Pastoral Care at Willow Creek Community Church outside Chicago, and Paterson Center LifePlan facilitator, Scott is no stranger to the reality that our lives regularly bring us to a crossroad.

By far, Scott’s favorite role in life has been “family man.” He and his wife, September, have been married for more than thirty years. They have raised their five children (ages 21–29) and are now enjoying the spoils of being grandparents to two little ones—and counting!

Difficult Conversations: Overcoming Barriers, Maximizing ResultsFriday, November 7, 9 a.m. – 5 p.mDifficult conversations with important peopleImportant conversations with difficult people

We all encounter situations that require difficult conversations in order to bring about conflict resolution. The passive-aggressive co-worker, bullying church leader, church members resisting change—avoiding them is not an option. The stakes are too high, the consequences too costly. But how do we engage in effective, forthright conversations without getting stuck in anger, protracted arguments, or relational fracture? While the emotional, relational and vocational cost of mishandling these conversations is incalculable, so are the rewards to getting it right: Deeper relational connections, empowered sessions, a thriving team culture, and a rewarding, fulfilling ministry that is maximizing its kingdom impact. In this session, Scott sheds light on the key barriers that sabotage even the most well intentioned efforts at conflict resolution—and offers practical insights and tools to help you navigate difficult conversations successfully.

The Multiplier EffectThursday, January 22, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.We’ve all had experience with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drains intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always needs to be the smartest person in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the Diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them. When these leaders walk into a room, light bulbs go off over people’s heads; ideas flow and problems get solved. These are the leaders who inspire others to stretch themselves and contribute more to the mission of the organization. These are the Multipliers. The world needs more of them, especially now when leaders are expected to do more with less. What could your organization accomplish with access to all the intelligence that sits inside it?
