Scope and Content

Melvin Kenneth Eckenroth (1914-1975) was a pastor, evangelist, administrator, and teacher. Hegraduated from Emmanuel Missionary College in 1937, and later earned a doctoral degree from HowardUniversity in Washington, D.C. He held several pastoral positions before becoming an associatesecretary in the General Conference Ministerial Association in 1947. Four years later he becamechairman of the Department of Field Ministries for the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminarylocated in Washington, D. C. In 1958 he accepted the position of President for the New JerseyConference. He joined the faculty of Columbia Union College in 1963 where he remained as chairman ofthe Religion Department until his death.

The collection includes one box of correspondence dating from the 1940s to 1975. Also manysermons, syllabi and class notes, evangelistic material including sermons and radio scripts, and topicalfiles and clippings. It is a wide ranging collection with the heart being evangelism and teaching othershow to do it.

Arrangement

Some manipulation of the collection was done in order to make its arrangement logical and,therefore, easier to use. The general essence of the original arrangement was not significantly altered. The inventory presents a folder level description. The series include: correspondence, personaldocuments, writings and sermons by Eckenroth, writings by others, evangelistic campaigns by Eckenroth,evangelistic campaigns and radio programs by others, teaching, topical files, and clippings.

The contents of folders may have been rearranged.The diamond [—] indicates a subsection heading to help define the otherwise long lists in the

inventory. The hyphen [-] on the inventory pages indicates a file folder.

Provenance

This collection was donated by Margaret L. Eckenroth, the wife of Melvin K. Eckenroth. It wastransferred in September 1987 through the mediation of the Seminary Librarian, Warren H. Johns.

Use

The collection is available for research use provided appropriate regard is paid to copyrightedmaterial. Also, selected personal correspondence is not available for use until September 19, 2007.

All users of this collection will be required to complete the "Application to Use UnpublishedRecords" and to observe the regulations specified in the "Patron's Agreement" and the "Researcher'sCode of Conduct."
