Today we are going to begin learning about the regions and physical features of the United States of

America! You will be labeling two maps today. Please make sure you write neatly! You will need these to

Climate:- The majority of the northeast has cold

winters, and hot summers but the northern areas have cold winters and warm summers.

- They get about 20-40 inches of rain a year. Some areas get 40-80 inches.

Interesting regional facts: - Mississippi river is the second longest river in the United states behind the Missouri river.

Climate: - this area gets between 40 to 80 inches of rain per year. - the southern portion of this area has warm winters and hot summers the northern area of this region has cool winters and hot summers.

Climate: - in the northern areas of arizona and new mexico they have cold winters and warm summers. - in the remainder of the region some have warm winters and others have cool winters but they have hot summers. - The rainfall amounts in this area vary as well. In arizona and new mexico rainfall ranges from 0 to 20 inches per year. In Texas and oklahoma rainfall ranges from 10 to 40 inches a year.

midwestInteresting regional fact: - parts of this region is the largest producer of corn in the country. - lake superior is the largest lake in north america and the 2nd largest in the world.

Climate: - the northern portion of this region experiences cold winters while the southern portion experiences cool winters. The northern area has warm summers where the southern area has hot summers. - This area receives between 10 to 40 inches of rain per year. - the southern areas of illinois, indiana, ohio and missouri receive between 40 to 80 inches per year.

Interesting regional fact: - death valley, in california, has the lowest rainfall in the united states. - wyoming has the smallest population of any state.

Climate: - some area have cold winters and warm summers while other have warm/cool winters and hot summers. - The rainfall in this region varies. There are some areas in each state that receive 20 to 40 inches of rain per year. Other areas receive between 0 to 20 inches per year.

The remainder of this region’s rainfall ranges from 10 to 40 inches per year. - the majority of this region has cold winters and warm summers. There are some areas that experience hot summers.

Shoe box projectYou and your group will be putting together a shoe box project of your

assigned region. You will put things in the shoe box that a person would find in your

region. You cannot have any words or phrases! Only objects! Please do not put

anything in the box that will spoil. When everyone has finished their shoe

box we will walk around the room and you will take a shoe box quiz! You will have to

determine which box goes with each region!
